Do You Purchase UPS's? If so, at what price?

Over the past few weeks I've been asked to purchase a few UPS's. For those who don't know the terminology there is a link below. I've scrapped enough of them to know their approx values, but have never been able to come up with a per pound price. I'm picking up a 150lb one this week.

There are a lot of different styles of UPS's so the answer is kind of difficult. It looks like the case on this one is plastic which would be waste for me. I generally get the smaller ones that are computer backups. There again there are two styles - plastic and metal cases. Basically, I just pay the battery price (for the weight of the batteries) and deduct a little if plastic cased. The metal makes up for the tear-down time. You'll need to determine what size batteries are in there.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

I'd say it really depends on what price you get for batteries. it ranges from .19-.38/lb around here......$.15/lb is fair.

I paid $3 for the last one I bought because I had gotten paid $12 a pound for the previous ups battery I took to the yard- it had weighed three pounds. Unfortunately, the guy at the yard had made a mistake paying me that much. On this trip I only got $3.00 for the battery. The yard owner said I didn't have to repay the $36 since it was their mistake. He probably wasn't so nice to the guy who screwed up.

Dont go to golden recycling. They are a just a small yard who sells to the bigger yards in town. Try the one KZ did or All recycling on raritan. If you look at golden recycling you will see that they have a roll off from all recycling. Thats who they sell all there stuff too.

Ill buy anything I can make money on. I generally don't purchase a lot of scrap. I have 15 of that similar type right now. I'm trying to see if they're worth more than scrap.

I can tell you this. If you have a chance to score a back like the ones I got of a cleanout job at my work; pay for it these are worth it. These have over 300 lbs of battery 100 pound steel chassis and a few pounds of copper connectors and wire.

You should look for a forklift repair shop. The one buy me pays .40 a Lb. Also if the batteries are good Golf cart repair shops might be interested or golf courses. Those battery blocks are useful to people looking to build backup power storage for alternative energy systems. Another thought is lawnmower repair shops might have a use for them looks like whats size is in mine.

Some thinking out loud for you.
