Do you have the computer torn down yet? You might need to take it a little slower. If it's still together, and a brand name, go to their website to find specs on the unit. Dell is good with this, merely go to dell.com support and enter the tag number, they'll list everything in it there in the specifications tab.
If it's already disassembled, try using a google search on each individual part

Timmy likes to post a question and then disappear and watch everyone respond. Then he posts a similar question in a different area and does the same thing. All he has to do is start saying " Timy thinks this" or "Timy likes that" or " Timy is sad or Timy is angry". Timy will be getting the iggy button soon if he keeps it up...

I'm thinking maybe he's not fully aware of how to use/navigate a forum, or very knowledgeable about computers either. My apology for getting the derogatory comments started here Timy.
Just slow down, and read a lot, you'll get it figured out in time

Depends how old it is, and what's inside it. Can you post the brand, model of the computer, or maybe the model # of the motherboard ?

Timy we are all here to help, but you have to put some time into it and read the old threads. To answer the question older computers are always good to get as there is more precious metal content inthe various parts. You have to decide if you want to resell parts for more than scrap value or just scrap it and be happy with what you get. The majority of the buyers on here have good customer reviews and their prices are competitive. You can also scrap the whole computer at a yard but you are probably only looking at between .09 to .20 #. Sorry for the earlier post you just reminded me of someone else who used to be on here. The answers to most of the questions you are going to have can be found in the old posts and there are a few here that will answer your questions by directing you to the linq like mechanic688 did above. Good luck and keep reading.

Do you just have 1 old computer that you're looking to sell/part out, or do you have other stuff?

    I don't think there's much of a market for a 8x cd rom or a floppy drive.

There are 3 catagories for computers and related electronics.
Too old/cool to scrap, too new/cool to scrap, and the stuff you scrap. Only time and learning help you know what pile to put it in.
