Dell tower face plates, would have never guessed

I never guessed those tower face plates would have any value. I will be a LOT more careful about ripping them apart now:

    Dell Inspiron 530 531 Bezel Face Plate YN562 YJ254 Blank | eBay

Used Dell Inspiron, 6 sold for $15 plus $7 S&H.

Something to keep in mind now.

One sold at 14.99, the other 5 were won by private offers. Still nice though.

I noticed on the link that there are also lots of SATA serial wiring for sale. Has anyone found it worthwhile to sell newer wires separately or just throw them in with the computer wire bucket?

I'd say Dell side covers sell well also. You ever noticed how many were pried off, breaking the latches, by people who didn't know how to open it(using the handy lil push button ; )

YES! In fact I have had my Dad take apart a bunch of stuff for me. He loves to get the big framing hammer and pry bar out. I tell him its just plastic and engineered to come apart simply. He can never figure out the little "tricks" and so resort to banging away at them. Free labor, so what can i do?

Yep! You've ran across a little unknown secret! Shhhhh

Faceplates are a great way to maximize earnings. Make sure you take them off carefully enough that the power-switch works. List them as 30 days buy-it-now and wait.

    Thanks for the heads up.

Someone else on here pointed out a non-working laptop sold on E-bay for parts for thirty bucks. I told one of the repairmen that I deal with about it and he said he would buy newer laptops ( with Vista or higher) for 20-30 bucks non-working too. I'm always getting new ideas on here!

Okay, a few questions here since everyone is talking about desktops and laptops and selling them broke on ebay.

    1. Regarding the face plates, is this for any brand and model, or just dells? I ask, because I have several laying around, and just keep forgetting to load them into my truck for the scrap yard/landfill

    2. Regarding the laptops, I always take out the hard drives, but everything else has been kept in. In order to sell them on ebay, does the hard drives need to be put back on? Also, before I realized the easier way of taking out the hard drives, I accidently broke a few of the keyboard cases trying to get to them. Basically, does the laptop need to be in great condition (minus working) to get sold, or does it matter?

Condition matters to someone who wants to buy it for refurb geo. If your just looking for a parts machine I bet condition wouldnt matter. I look at it this way. Most of the people buyiong parts machines on ebay are just looking for a good screen. Any other parts are a bonus. When a new screen cost $50 why not by a parts machine for $20 or $30. IF your breaking laptops to get hard drives out your doing it wrong. 99% of all laptops hard drives are behind a cover that usualy comes off with 1 or 2 screws.

I love watching plastic fly across the room. I also like watching springs from printers fly across the room. But, hey, that's just me I guess.

Don't forget to check for gold ends on the wires before they go in the bucket.
I use scissors that I got at CurbCo on the ribbon cable.

Id sell a scrap laptop for $10 just so i dont have to scrap it out myself, just saying. The ones i have sold in the $30-$50 range are newer ones like netbooks and core solos. Havnt ever tried selling faceplates or side covers, but it sounds promissing.
I buy and sell all types of scrap and escrap. I buy specialty and hard to sell escrap. I buy resale items. PM me or contact me at jghilino@hotmail.com
I AM ACTIVELY BUYING ESCRAP OF ALL TYPES. BOARDS, RAM, CPUS AND MUCH MORE

I didnt think it would matter, but once again, better to be safe then sorry, especially since I am still limited to the number of items that I can sell.

Yes, I am not proud to admit it, but when I first started with laptops, I couldn't figure out an easy way to get to the hard drive. So after the 3rd one, I googled how to remove the hard drive, and that is when I learned about the screw. Needless to see, I feel like a complete idiot right then. Now, it is easy as anything, and they get to stay in take.

All the ones I have now, minus 3 of them, are newer laptops. I couldn't tell you anything about them, because unlike all of you guys, I couldn't tell you specs on any given computer, unless I could see the properties from the computer menu.

Anyways, I will get them all out tomorrow and check on ebay. Might have a few diamonds in the rough!

Don't beat yourself up, George. Almost everything I ever learned about computers, I learned on here -that may be true of others on the forum.

Your post helped me, because I'm still practically having to take a sledgehammer to the @#$%^ laptops, so it's good to know there are easier ways to skin that cat!

Personaly if its a pentium 3 or newer laptop I would leave them whole and sell them straight to ROK. Can get as much as $30 plus each for dual cores and dont have to do anything but ship them to him.

I mainly would just force the keyboard area off to get to the hard drive. Have never gotten a laptop yet without a cracked screen to it, so I figured, what was the point in being gentle lol

But yeah, after I found out about the hard drive compartment, it has made my job EASIER for sure!

so, I have been looking roughly for the last 30 minutes to see what scrap aka non working laptops are going for, and for the majority, they pretty much all sell to sell for $25+ minutes a few who did not sell, and a few who sold for less than $25, but the average has definitely been $25, so to me that is pretty **** good, considering almost all of them also charged for shipping.

So the way I figured it, you could beat some competition by paying at least $5 to $10 per laptop, and either sell to local repair guys, or on craigslist and easily double your money or even more. I even saw a few that sold for $60+

However, my question is this. Most of the auctions listed the specs for the laptop in the title...I know how to get all of that information if I can turn on the pc, but if you cannot turn it on, then how can you know what the specs are.

Same thing with PC chips...most of you guys can look at a pc chip and say what type of processor, ghz etc it is. All I ever see on a few is a few sets of numbers.
