Help finding a company to recycle parts

I've been told that there may be some amount of precious metals in electronic parts. Here's a rundown of my situation: A few years back I purchased rows and rows of shelving units on an online auction, purchased for the shelves, but the requirement was I got everything on the shelves as well. I didn't realize how much stuff was on those shelves! There was boxes and boxes of both bare circuit boards and populated boards, chips, resitors, some processors, gold plated pins galore, and lots of other things that I don't know what they are. Most of the parts are brand new. I estimate there is close to 1000 lbs of material. This is no exageration. I am not a computer "geek", no disrespect intended, so I have no idea what to do with this stuff. My thoughts are to find a recycler to send all this stuff to and let them refine the precious metals from them and be done. Reading some of the other posts, I'm sure I'll get other ideas about what I should do with it all. Thanks for any ideas or tips.

Might be worth your while to find a local computer "geek" to look over the stuff. If its new and usable, he can buy it or put you in touch with someone who can. Worse case is you get "scrap" value from these things, and you can find buyers on this forum. Pictures and more details will help us to help you.

If it is more modern stuff there is way more than scrap value. If it is just old stuff that been on a shelf for 5 or 10 years best bet is either sell it to someone local or ship it of to one of the buyers listed here.

I'm not entirely sure of the age of these components, but I think they may be on the older side. I've had them setting in a corner of my shop in bins for about four years. Some of the packaging and some of the boards have dates as far back as 1988 and I've found dates on some chips in the early 90's. I've seen some posts on other sites that have said the older the parts are the higher percentage of precious metals. Any thoughts?

Where are you located? The USA is a pretty big place, state and town might help find a buyer close to you, and save on shipping.

Sound like you bought shelf from a circuit board company.
Like others asked what State? If it is MN I bet I could tell you the name of the place you bought out.
If these are new parts still in packages there are compaines that sell/buy old stock.

look at the sockets on the motherboards. If they're 2" squares and say like "socket 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7", they're a higher grade than most scrap buyers see many of these days. If the socket numbers are higher(like in the hundreds) and smaller than 2" squares, they're newer. If there aren't any square white sockets, and have several black slots on them, the longer black slots might be getting you into the "vintage" era.

I am located in central Washington State. I don't remember the name of the company the went bankrupt, but they built specialized testing equipment for airplane engine parts.

Woogie I am sure someone from Washington will offer to help.
You could take some pictures of the stuff you have and post and we can see if we can help.
Most people here are assuming you are talking about computer motherboards. I am not sure that is right becuase you talk about bare boards.
Look at the buyer section here Scrap Buyers & Sellers
This one might be the one you are looking for on the new in package parts http://www.scrapmetalforum.com/scrap...st-prices.html
