I have been processing a bunch of Telecom scrap and was delighted to have found more than a few solid copper boxes.
These boxes were used in 1rst generation cell phone equipment. Actually they are part of the antenna equipment.
The larger of the 2 boxes weighs 27 lbs cleaned. I have not weighed the smaller one yet. There are many other different sizes also.
Most of these have heavy solid copper pieces throughout the inside of the box. Somehow the were part of the tuning apparatus.
The boxes all have copper rivets also. The smaller one pictured does have small steel screw thread inserts, but they are easy to knock out.
The bolt or screws you see are all brass. The antenna hook-ups unscrew easily. Even the fins on the uprights are copper.
I hate to even begin to imagine what these cost new.
I am going to cut a cross section out of one and display it in my computer shop.
This has been a great blessing to me along with all of the other goodies I have been harvesting out of this stuff.
The scrap yard I go to took a bunch of pictures of this stuff also because he said he has not seen it before.
"Not so little", finds like this make this job that much more enjoyable.
I have quite a few of them.
