I got a call from a guy who is closing his store. They repair and sell flat screen TVs. He said he has close to 1000 boards that came out of them. I was told that each TV has 3 of them. He was unable to semd me a picture of them but that I can come check them out Saturday morning. My question: what are these boards worth? What should I offer? I dont deal in televisions really and all I know is they are LCD tvs from 2006- 2012. Any advice?

I pay $10 pound for lcd boards, must be the type that has a finger all the way down 1 side of the board. Must be clean, no screws/plastic or trash/padding attached to them.
There is also alot of midgrade boards in flat screens you can get $2 pound for, and a good annount of low grade boards and copper wire. Theres also stainless steel frames, aluminum and copper foil to look out for.

Well he had about 200 loose boards and that is what I was intending on buying. He told me he had approx 200 flat screens (screens cracked). I dont have the room for that many right now so i said no thanks. Well then he offered to pull the boards out for me! I just needed to know what to pay.
This is in Nashville. If anyone is interested they have huge amounts of blu ray and dvd players. Stereo and surround sound equipment, car audio. As well as tons of tvs. Pm me if interested.

It just sounds very similar to a guy out of greenville that contacted me......He said he had the same type of stuff and when I got there all he showed me was 4 gaylords of plastic lenses for projection tvs with a low grade board sodered onto the unit...Good luck I guess I am just saying be careful

There are a lot more than 3 boards in each TV. X, Y, power supply, main board, ect... It really depends on what boards he kept. It is also REALLY important to know what models the TVs came from. If the boards came from TVs larger than 32" there is a HUGE secondary market for the parts. Most main boards and power supplies sell in the 50-80 dollar range. Most of the buffer boards go for about 25-35 dollars. Boards from the newer TVs are easily well over 100.00. I personally would be looking to buy the lot to resell.
Because he owns a shop, he knows the value of these boards which is 10k-15k on the REALLY low side, if you piece out each board (when you figure in boards that won't sell). A lot of boards are discontinued after 2-3 years and the only way to get one is on the secondary market. The scrap value is much less.
I personally would first decide if you are willing to do the work and ebay all of the boards.
I then (would have already) ask what he was looking to get for the boards before I made a trip to view the boards, from there you have a starting point to haggle. He could be asking 5K which wouldn't be out of line if you were repairing TVs. Keep in mind, while the demand for an individual board is high, the market for 1000 boards is very limited, most people are only interested in the board that will fix their tv.
I don't think you will get a good enough deal to scrap them and make any kind of money.
I do think you could get a good enough deal to resell them and make a few thousand.

Well we spoke again and he told me he needs them gone by saturday. I told him i really didn't think i would be able to move them for the price he was asking and he asked what would be the most I could do. I told him a low price of $1.25 per lb but i would still need to inspect all of it first and that price was no guarantee or offer to buy. He said he could let them go for that price if i wanted them.... surprising. Thoughts?

my thought is he might be telling the truth about having to get rid of them by saturday and $1.25lb is better than free or paying to get rid of them.

You are going to find that 99% of all the boards are going to be mid-grade to low-grade. I'd still be buying with the idea of reselling.
My first concern would be condition.
No shop is going to just have a bunch of boards thrown into a box. I use to take each board and put it in a flat rate box (they are free), write what board was on the box with a marker, then stack them against the wall. No one is going to just pile 40.00 boards into a box to get ruined unless they were already bad (but some people are stupid).
If there are just boxes of boards, with no static bags, just laying around, you are really looking at scrap and I'd talk him down even more.
A good power supply = 50.00 +++. A bad power supply = 30 cents (.10 cents a pound). It's easy math.

This is one supplier that many shops use. When they are out, usually I'd turn to ebay. It's a good way to get familiar with which board is which and their value. You could just click on a brand (to the left) and it will list all the different boards and parts. You are going to see very little in the way of chips and gold on most boards.

Id be all over it at $1.25 pound. Theres only 1 low grade board per tv, the 3-4 other boards are all midgrade or much higher. Plus the resale factor.

I'm not sure if this will help, as many have said. Any TV repair shop should know what can be sold and what can't. However, a friend gave me a nice 32inch lcd TV that didn't work. I thought about buying a new power board but I wasn't exactely sure it was a capacitor nor was I sure it wasn't dropped during the transfer to me. I thought about scrapping it since there were some decent boards on it but istead I opted to see if there was an resale for untested items. Here is the eBay listing for it. I ended up making $30 for all the boards untested.

I made my offer of 1.25/lb. He said he had a guy coming to look at them after me who was in the repair biz. He was going to see what he could sell to him for a higher price and whatever was leftover he would let me have at that price. I told him that my price would go down if a lot of the high grade stuff was gone and that really with the gas and time I would have to spend coming back on a different day it may not be worth it to me. He said he really just needed it all gone so I told him Id haul it all off for free if I got a good amount of parts. He seemed to like the idea of a free cleanout and he said hed call me back this weekend so we will see.

Well it took some time but the guy just got back in contact with me today. It doesn't look like this is a deal i will be able to work out with him because I still am too small to take on his entire inventory which, from what I have gathered, he still has. I was under the impression he was in a time crunch but perhaps that was not the case. He has asked me to try and find someone who will be able to purchase the load. I told him I would use my best available resources (this forum) to see what I could come up with. If anyone is interested finding out more about this buyout send me a message.
