Ill explain how I do this since I buy things from the forum members for more than scrap value. Since you asked about ram ill use the ram example but it works about the same on everything I buy. I pay $2 for a 1gb or higher stick of ram if it works after testing. I then determine if its a name brand stick or generic stick. Generics start at one price and name brands at another. Also matters if they are ddr1 2 or 3. This matters for the sale price. 1gb ddr usually sell for about $10 per stick name brand and $8 for generic. 1gb ddr2 usually sell for $8 per stick name brand and $6 generic. 1gb ddr3 your lucky to get $5 for them. Most ddr3 boards people are running 2 4 6 or 8gb sticks in them.
Now the prices above are what I start my auctions buy it now price with and a starting bid just $1 lower. So if I have 1 1gb ddr stick Ill put it up for sale for starting bid of $9 and buy it now for $10 and list it for 7 days. If it doesnt sell then I lower it a $1 and list it again. I do this untill it sells.
Hope that helps. Now dont go killing the market with lowball pricing
