    Selling Ram on ebay

So I realize that ram (specifically 1gb) sell for more than scrap prices. Doesn't really matter on the manufacturer, just as long as you price it right, it will definitely sell.

However, my question is this, aside from testing the ram, if you are selling more than 1 stick of ram, does both sticks need to be from the same manufacturer?

Matched pairs sell better and at higher prices than mixed pairs. I would sell them individually or in a lot if you cant match them up.

Make sure your testing the ram GEO nothing stinks more than getting a ram stick back for it failing memtest even it boots up the machine. Also invest in antistatic bags to ship them in.

Other than plugging them into a machine, what program do you use to test with?

I sell the oddball ones as mixed lots for slightly less than than if they were in pairs. This works out pretty good. On another note, this should be scrap room material only

there is too many variables there to give a value

you need to check the model number of the ram against ebay completed listings and go from there

Considering that I am not a member of the Scrap Room, then I ask in the open forum.

Easiest way to answer this is simple. Go to ebay.com, type in the specks for the ram you want to sell and hit enter...then choose completed listings. Look at the ones in GREEN and it will give you some indication.

Ill explain how I do this since I buy things from the forum members for more than scrap value. Since you asked about ram ill use the ram example but it works about the same on everything I buy. I pay $2 for a 1gb or higher stick of ram if it works after testing. I then determine if its a name brand stick or generic stick. Generics start at one price and name brands at another. Also matters if they are ddr1 2 or 3. This matters for the sale price. 1gb ddr usually sell for about $10 per stick name brand and $8 for generic. 1gb ddr2 usually sell for $8 per stick name brand and $6 generic. 1gb ddr3 your lucky to get $5 for them. Most ddr3 boards people are running 2 4 6 or 8gb sticks in them.

Now the prices above are what I start my auctions buy it now price with and a starting bid just $1 lower. So if I have 1 1gb ddr stick Ill put it up for sale for starting bid of $9 and buy it now for $10 and list it for 7 days. If it doesnt sell then I lower it a $1 and list it again. I do this untill it sells.

Hope that helps. Now dont go killing the market with lowball pricing

I know software wise, there is probably a lot of stuff, just like any other type of program.

I was more referring to, what you would put the ram in physically to test it. Do you or anyone else use just a computer, or is there equipment like there is for the hard drives?

My apologies for not being more clear on that.

The 1gb stick usually sell for $8-$10 per stick that is why i would prefer not to sell them at $2 each. The 1gb sticks i cant pair up or move i have no problem selling at $2 each.

Yes GEO they make a memory tester. RAMCHECK Memory Tester for DDR, DIMM, SODIMM and SIMM testing. Just get ready to spend $4000.00
