    Hard Drive Docks?

I've found a few threads about wiping software for hard drives, but haven't been able to find specifics for any preferences/ recommendations for docks. What brands or models are preferred or which to avoid?

I'm just getting into e-scrap, but several people have already asked me about destroying the data/ drives. Thus far I take them apart and destroy the platters, but I'd like to be able to get more out of any higher capacity drives I find, and branch out into wiping drives for a couple local companies who have expressed interest in such a service.

Or is this a question better asked/ answered in the Scrap Room? (Which I will be joining within the next month).

I have answered this very question in more than one of those threads. But ill answer it again. I use icy dock drive bay docks for my SAS docks, startech docks for my ide and sata drives, and an old server for my hot swap scsi drives. I use media tools for my wiping software and hdtuner for my health diagnostic software. All in all I have around $600 invested in equipment and software I think was last count in testing and wiping of hard drives. I would love to buy one of those stand alone 4 bay testers but they are about $4000. Its on my want list as well as a memory tester at another $5000.

Thanks for being willing to repeat yourself :-D I tend to be a bit scatter-brained so it helps to have information like this consolidated. I can remember reading about the software you use, but didn't have any luck on the hardware from my memory or the Google search on here.

You can get a starter docking station from E-bay for around $25 including shipping. That will last long enough to let you know if it is something for you or not.

PTS is way above most of us on what he does and he is serious about his hard drives. Which is a good thing.

Admitting is the first step to knowing if you want to "recover" or go deeper, haha!
