Do any of you in or outside the state of Michigan have licensing for e-waste recycling?

I got asked if I have a license today kind of weird?

I do run a business in town, but break down all of the e-waste I receive in my huge garage.

For the most part I have been receiving e-waste from companies for free, and buying off people in the community.

Do I really need a license for dealing with and selling to the scrapyard? If so the scrapyard has not explain this to me and to its customers/clients..

In Michigan there is no "license" for recycling e waste, but you do have to register at the end of every year with the DEQ and state the amount of material you received the previous year. There are a bunch of other regulations that you must follow, however they are extremely vague in the way they are written. You also have to pay a 2000.00 registration fee every year, which is the best part of course.

Thus far I have either taken my materials to Resource Recycling in Pontiac or sent them off to ewasted.

Hm. I'm unaware of this. Is this for the small time scrap guy or just for the yards/buyers?

I am not sure how much attention is given to enforcing it to be honest with you. Technically anyone who collects end of life electronics is supposed to register. As I said before, the sections in the law are pretty vague. I know plenty of yards that by e waste that do not register. They may be covered by their junkyard license but I am not sure.

The 2000.00 is for "electronic recycling research" and to develop recycling programs.

That pretty much sums it up. The regulation states that the fee will be assessed annually until 2015. It literally says not a thing more. No idea if the fee is temporary, or if it will be up for review at that point or what.
