copper heatsinks

Just letting you all know that copper heatsinks have a much better resale value than scrap value. People are looking for these for better cooling over the stock aluminum heatsink/fan combos. I dont think the pure aluminum ones are worth reselling. But the copper ones do quite well on ebay even though they are used.



copper passive server heat-sinks $10-$15
copper/aluminum heat-sink/fan combos $10-15
copper heat-pipe. aluminum fins with fan $10-20
copper heat-pipe with copper fins with fan $20-40

lol you know, due to all your advice the last few days to everyone in general, you have added probably a few days worth of work to me (dvd/cd drives, floppies, now copper heatsinks) but like one of my favorite sayings go, I rather be busy and making $$$$ than not!

If you don't mind, could you post a picture of each of the ones your describing so I can use them as a visual reference?

the most important thing is knowing what socket they work with, if there is fans attached they are more valuable/desirable to a bidder/buyer

I have some of the copper heatpipe with aluminum fins, but I have torn all the fans off them (as I was intending on turning them in as aluminum)...do you think that by doing that, it destroyed their value?

I do have some of the others as well, so guess I am adding more work to my to do list lol.

There is usually an x or h shaped clamp that holds them to the motherboard, there is also a piece on the bottom of the motherboard that goes with them. It is best if you remove all of it from the motherboard and then completely reassemble it. Then you will have a complete heatsink/fan that has all of the parts needed for installation. Just in case the buyer dosent have all of the parts.

The purpose of the post was to note which types of heatsinks are worth more than scrap value, and should be resold to maximize your proceeds. Reselling/reusing is recycling.

Would you rather get $1.50 pound or $10 pound?
