I found 4 small pieces of gold in a dual cpu fan and I was wondering who I should sell them to. They are small square screw nuts about 1/4" by 1/4". Should I sell them to a ewaste buyer or should I sell them to a cash for gold place. Any help is greatly appreciated.

My best guess is that they are just gold anodized. Their not really gold plated. Wouldn't make sense to plate them,,,Originally Posted by poundigity24

mechanic I will have to check tomorrow. They are in my shed and it is too dark and too cold to go get them now.

Stick them to the side till you have enough material to sell.

Yeah, Ive had cold nuts lately here in NJ also, but luckily it warmed up today so Im feeling better.

I found something like you are talking about underneath a motherboard. These little pieces were screwed into the tower housing, and the motherboard mounting screws were secured into these pieces. The ones I have are non-magnetic and look like brass.

E you are right thay are brass. 24 those would be brass. Don't know why they would put gold nuts in a fan (make no sence).

Those are motherboard stand-off's and there will be brass ones on older 'puters but newer ones look like steel.

I would say brass.... We have broke down 10,000 plus computers and haven't seen gold nuts in a fan....brass makes way more sense

Yep, brass for stand-offs. Also, most of those ones that look like steel are usually plated brass.

What wolf said, by checking the standoffs with a magnet you will see that some of them are actually plated brass. Probably nickel plated brass just like alot of shell casings that are produced.
