I don't do a lot of servers (except boat anchors) and not sure if these are worth it. Wouldn't want to tear them down if their worth more as working units. Thanks for any advise.

the 6650 will take quad core xeons, so id say its worth more than scrap . around $150 to the right buyer
I buy and sell all types of scrap and escrap. I buy specialty and hard to sell escrap. I buy resale items. PM me or contact me at jghilino@hotmail.com
I AM ACTIVELY BUYING ESCRAP OF ALL TYPES. BOARDS, RAM, CPUS AND MUCH MORE

I would buy them at that price. He also wants a trade for a desktop...got any around. Either way its a good deal. And the hd's are included.

Personally I'd pass. It's too much. Those are old servers with not a lot of resale value. That looks like the same lot that sold at IU for 125.00. If you can't resell them, you don't have much room for scrap at 20.00, that's what they are pretty much worth.

|

They aren't moving at anything near that price currently.
119 with free shipping (which has to be 50-60.00)
S102 Dell PowerEdge 6650 Rackmount Server Xeon x4 1 6GHz 8GB 5X72GB | eBay
40.00 with 40.00 shipping
Dell PowerEdge 6650 Rackmount Server Dual Xeon 1 5GHz 4GB RAM No HDDs VG Used | eBay
That's it from Nov. - Current.
Very slow market, and we don't know if his are going to be as good as the 119.00 one.

Selling old complete units is hard; shipping usually kills the value. It's easier to move individual parts since they are so much lighter...just something to keep in mind.

I think price is ok. Try to sell entire unit - more than scrap value. if not - each server has about 4-6 lb of high grade boards x 20 pcs. we are talking 80 - 120 lb of boards, plus power supplies. cables etc. Selling boards for $4 or more per lb plus scrap and misc we are talking $500+
Only my 2 cents.

You may want to see if they have Ram and Cpu's. I would probably buy them, there is room for profit once you figure in the hard drives and sell off the power supplies. As usual it comes down to what someones time is worth.

Darn, too bad I get paid next week. Id drive over there and pick them up lol. Could sell them to local repair shops for around 30-50 a pop....

I would try to get them for $100-150. 1U and 2U servers don't have 4-6 lbs high grade boards, more like 3-4 lbs each. The hard rives are not worth more than scrap value. Once in a while I was able to sell 18/36/73 GB SCSI drives, but it takes a while, not too many buyers want them. A bit too much for $200, but it you can get them for less, you should do OK.

I put in an offer to do some "horsetrading". I've got a few rebuilder 'puters saved back and offered a couple and a little cash in trade.
If they don't bite then I'm not out anything. Whats the worst they can do,, say yes.??? I'm not going to sweat it if they turn me down.
Thanks again for all the advise as like I said, I'm not really familiar with servers.
And I did wonder about those 73gig HD's, I've got a few of them already saved back, donno why. Thought they were scarce.

If they are all 73 gig scsi hds, pts has those listed at $3 each and if you send with the trays i believe he pays $2 more per piece. If they all work you get you money back right there.just a thought.

those are pretty easy tear downs. not much retail value when you consider the haste and cost of ebay and pay pal. on es crap I average .56 per lb of server.

I noticed that they said they've all been tested and work in the ad. I've had quite a bit of luck contacting people asking if there were any that didn't work, and then offering to buy the ones that didn't. If it were me, I'd contact them about it and see what they say. Besides, most normal people don't have 10 servers laying around their house, so this guy might be some kind of IT guy. I'd definitely ask about any other busted parts he has laying around.
