    Tadpole Laptop Computers?

So I got a Tadpole Viper laptop today with 80gb hard drive and solaris 8 on it. I can't find hardly any info and there is only 1 listing on ebay for the model I have, the person is asking $14,000......I understand these are for the coding/hacker elite? I'm pretty sure this thing is valuable but if anyone could give me some info or correct me if I'm wrong? It is in perfect shape powers on but I can't get past the login screen...

I would think this has good value to it. $14,000 is way out of the question, but check out other models if you can find them as a reference. I've never messed around much on a solaris system, so I'm just assuming it's the same as other linux/unix machines.

Solaris is a unix variant which is kind of similar to DOS. You can create a boot disk, and then go into the directory /etc.
There is a file there called "shadow". Use the built in text editor vi to edit it. Delete the line with the root password on it. Save, and reboot.
When you restart, I believe it should prompt you for a new password.

edit: That's not exactly what has to be done word for word. I believe that you need to "mount" (load) the main disk after you start from the boot disk. I'm sure there is a tutorial somewhere on this.

Why thanks! I found a model that was a step down selling for parts on ebay it sold for $300, only thing close I could find. I will try the boot disk later and let you know how it goes.
