What should I pay for mixed e-waste ongoing?

    What should I pay for mixed e-waste ongoing?

    I want to bid on mixed e-waste computers, printers, misc, monitors the stuff is a mix of everything ya know. What is a good price to pay per pound for this kind of mix? I am able to exclude the monitors if I want. I was thinking .06 a pound but I don't want to lose this bid to another company. The company that is bidding against me is about 2.5 hours away. Any thoughts?

    It's hard to know what to bid on that sort of thing. It's like telling a scrap yard that you will sell them all of your copper material for X amount. They would just pay what the lowest value item per pound is. Why don't you just lay out what you would pay for each category?
    Wire, printers, monitors, computers, etc. That would be the most fair to both of you.

    That is just not doable that would just be a giant headache for everyone.

    Well, then i would pay my rate for the least valuable stuff like a printer or crt monitor. Any other way leaves the floodgates open for you to receive a bunch of junk for more than what you want to pay for it.

    Call the company you are bidding against and ask what they will pay for your materials ,then you will have an idea what their bid will be ? Make sense?

    You ask a question but don't give enough info for anybody to give an honest answer. You want to bid by the pound but don't tell us how many pounds there is in the lot. It sounds like it's an auction but don't tell us what kind of auction it is. Here is my qestions. How many computer towers? How many monitors and what type? Is there a total wieght? Is this a blind bid auction or can you place a bid and if someone out bids you can you place another bid? Can you see what other people are bidding? What I would do is wait till about 20-30 min. before the auction closes and if the bid is low enough go ahead and place your bid and hope nobody out bids you.

    "ongoing" would seem to indicate a regular deal. Not sure how I would deal with it either, but think it might be wise to look for an approach that will encourage more computers to be in the mix. I think if you go with an ongoing "flat rate" you'll eventually find yourself with mostly junk

    If the only place he has to take it aside from you is 2.5 hours away, than simply bid your local shred price and tell them to keep the monitors. but maybe I'm misunderstanding. Hard to say really but I don't like blind bidding. I'm not into the storage war guessing game. I would ask for quantities of each type of unit and bid accordinly.

    Its a bid on a contract I currently have, last year I had no competition this year I got a bigger company interested in bidding against me. This contract is what got my company started last year and it supports my family now I am very worried that this company will out bid me and I will lose this important contract. I should mention that the electronics come from just about everywhere schools, households, etc. and its never consistent amounts one time it could all be computers and another it could be mostly printers.

    I think your the best candidate to answer your own question.
    You've had this contract for awhile now. You should have been tracking the type and quantity of material you have been receiving. At minimum, you should know what your profit has been per pound of this mixed ewaste. Based on all this information you should have, plus any information on your competition, plus any inside scoop from the relationship you have built over the past year with your customer, should give you a everything you need to place a very competitive bid.

    i agree with 6 cents a pound to account for all the plastic and crt tubes that are worthless, maybe you could provide an onsite container for them to put the stuff in so they dont have it taking up space in the meantime, how do you go about weighing everything?

    If it's a contract you currently have what's the problem????

    You know what the value of the contract is, if you feel you need to increase your offer you can easily do so projecting off of last year's value.

    With the market tanking like it just did, I would be hesitant to overpay of any escrap. Here copper is down also. Get the books, a calculator, and figure out what you are willing to work for.......

    Estimate how many pounds you hauled for them last year. If you don’t know estimate how much you paid to them last year and use the following equation.

    Example: (P)x = C
    P= the price you paid per pound
    X = Unknown Weight in pounds
    C= How much you paid them last year

    Example:
    $0.06x = $1500
    X = 25,000 pounds

    Now, what did you make last year from all this? Use this to figure out what you are making per pound

    Xy = R
    X = Weight in pounds
    Y = Unkown profit per pound
    R= Gross Payout last year

    Example:
    25,000y = $10,000
    y= $0.40 per pound

    Now play with the amount you pay per pound to see how it will affect your gross profit.

    **Don’t forget to factor in your other expenses and the fact that ewaste prices have fallen**

    Let me also offer this piece of advice; take it for what it’s worth.

    The best repellant for competition is a strong relationship with your client. Your client should be so happy with you that they don’t care about competition, especially if your family is depending on this contract. No one leaves a company they are truly happy with for a few extra dollars in revenue or savings.

    People buy form people. People stay with people.

    If its mostly crts and printers 6 cents a pound is way to high, that would be like $1.50 per crt, i am buying them at 50 cents each. 6 cents a pound is fair if its about 50/50 towers vs printers/monitors. I would stick with what you paid last year, i think prices will go back up by year end, you can stockpile all the high grade scrap till gold goes back up.

    some entities are required to take the best bid from a qualified bidder. generally government contracts
