keyboards by the gaylord

Hello, Currently sitting on 5 gaylords of computer keyboards and wondering if it is worth my time to break them down or if I should just try to sell them whole (by the box). Either way I have no idea what they are worth, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had a gaylord of keyboards once. There were about 300 keyboards in it. I broke a few down, then realized they were basically worthless as scrap, and sold the whole box for $250. Mostly plastic. Very little low yield wire, and the silver mylars are what you have. Small amounts of steel and low grade boards. Even if you can get $100 for a box, sell it IMO.

Are they all the same keyboard? Mixed? Newish? Old? Need details.

I will tell you this: If it's the old style, commonly called "clicky" keyboards (the IBM keyboards from the 80's are iconic examples), they you should ebay those suckers. Good money there.

Just a general rule of thumb, they'll be a lot heavier too(in case you don't wish to spend all day looking for a model number), you can quick sort them by weight, and save em for a rainy day ; )

If you get paid for plastic, it may be worth breaking them down.

If you don't get paid for plastic, I cannot see how breaking them down would make sense at all.

omg this would be fun to spend the day drinking and doing I would put all the keys into one Gaylord and just see how much I could get on ebay for it cause for a flat rate box I get between $20/50 but dang though if there working it may take a bit but lots of 5-12 do very well on ebay and can sell 50lots as well to go faster but even scrap wise between $300-500

I'm currently breaking down about a gaylord or so of keyboards. Old wavy gateway ones. mylar and cords out the whahoo. GOod times.

An yes much drinking occurs while breaking them down. The cooler earns its keep.

Old clicky keyboards goes between $20 - $60 depends of a brand. IBM most expensive.
Old apple kboards worth some money too.
Anything else - garbage.

If you get 300 keyboards per gaylord, 5 gaylords would be 1500 keyboards, each keyboard has 2 silver mylar sheets that would be 3000 sheets. 50 sheets too make a pound so 3000 divided by 50 would be 60 lbs x 4.00 lbs= 240.00. Plus you got the cords (maybe) and some keyboards have a steel plate in them and they have a small low grade board. And you'll have about 1,000,000 screws. I hope you have a cordless screw driver.

You may want to visit the Gold Refiners Forum. There is a fellow in Tennessee known as "testerman" who has been refining mylars for forum members at a 50/50 split. He actually mails half of the silver he recovers from your lot back to you.

I would be checking ebay for what silver mylar is going for. You might be suprised at what you find.

I am currently breaking keyboards down, mainly because I get .17# for low grade .07# plastic .85# wire with our with out the connector on (check the connector could be gold!) Steel sheets and screws .10-.11# and Mylar 4.00# gotta save up a lot for that lol I think I have at least 4 pounds maybe I haven't weighed them. Went through 80-100 keyboards recently

I have not been able to located a plastic buyer in my area (54220). Found a recycling yard about 50 miles away that will "accept it for no charge". My local County recycling center charges. Computer and CRT Plastic currently banned from WI landfills.
I have access to a large quantity of other plastic (about 300 cubic yards), wish I had a baler and a buyer !!!!

If you have truckload quantities of plastic, you can probably find a buyer that will come pick it up.

Most of the keyboards still have the cords . I have been waiting for my computer repair guy to stop by and let me know if he thinks any are still usable/ salable. I have too much other stuff to work on and would probably just sell these by the box full/ whole lot.
