Shipping whole desktop servers

As most know, I have 7 desktop servers, and then 4 smaller desktop servers that acted like firewalls. They are all worth $300+ each.

i am thinking of just trying to sell them as whole (even though the bigger ones are a good 50+ lbs in weight.

My main question is, if I choose to sell on ebay, and dont do local pickups, what is the BEST way to ship these things? I would eat the shipping maybe..havent decided yet, but the bigger question, is the best method to use for shipping...

if you have to ship with a carrier i would get an account with fedex or ups, i get 27% off shipping charges with my fedex account

i got an account with FedEx but i seriously doubt that i get discounts like that.

also i was inquiring more as to how to ship them. i doubt they can go into a box as heavy as they are.

i recieved a server in a box it weighed about 150 pounds and dimensions about 36x36x36

jghilino, i know you sell a lot via ebay. In your opinion would it be worth to sell them whole, or to break them down?

its hard to tell if it would be worth it or if your better off scrapping or parting them out, need to have model numbers/specs and look it up to find out

I will email you some pics and stuff when I get home.

all i know is some of the boards have good resale value, and some have better scrap value, the last server i processed i got telecom rate for the boards $6 pound, and $10 pound on the backplanes

hmm didnt honestly think that a box would support the weight, but I guess so.

Check with an appliance store and pick up an appliance box from them, they are double or triple wall, cut it down and replace the staples.

George, take a look at the bottom of a box. If it is a good box it will have a legend showing how much the box can handle. Look around to find one that has this. If you can't find one, I will post a picture for you. But I'll bet you can find a box that has this. It typically will not be on a box that has all kinds of pictures and such, but on a brown shipping box. My lazy fedex guy has refused shipments based on these numbers before. i.e. 70 pounds in a maximum 65 pound box. What a jackarse. The fedex guy, not you.

everyone who sells on ebay has an account with fed. You get over a 30 percent discount if you ship fedex threw ebay.

They charge a set rate according to box size. Last time I had some medical equipment and they charged $25 a box to pack it. The medical equipment I had cost me 285.00 to ship and pack from PA to FL! My fedex account was screwed up at the time, so I couldnt get my 11% discount. But the beauty of them packing it with bubble wrap according to Fedex standards and I had no headache of worrying abotu damaged items, was beautiful.

I dont have my "bible" in front of me. But the shipment I had 6-7 boxes weighing total 120 lbs for whole shipment give or take costing $285 to pack and ship including signature confirmation. The equipment I sold for 5 grand, so didn't need no chances of damage, lost, etc,.

So if I was you, just take the server to the counter and get rid of ya headache and stress! I'm sure you can probably ship them for 50 each including packing and shipping at the counter and they cover any lost, damages, etc. Happy customer..PRICELESS!!!

the shipping cost sending them individually will probably not be covered by scrap yeld. IF you can get $300 each on e bay that is the way to go. if you sell all of then in a package freight shipping is the way to go. put them all in a Gylord. 500 lbs in one box should be around .20 per lb

One thing I need to do is find a local business that sells different types of gaylord boxes. The type of area I live in, shouldn't be hard to do, just need to find one.
