    Would you?

I am not very educated on ewaste other than what I read on here (lots). I do know that it's valuable so I scoop it up and save it. I have a thrift store that I take all my working appliances and sell/trade. He saves all computers and laptops for me to buy rather than putting them on a shelf. I received a call from him the other day. He said he was tired of ebaying phones and wanted to start selling those to me as well. My question is: He wants $2.50 a phone. He has 400 something now and gets about 100 a week. Is $2.50 a piece too much. and with that many phones is it better to break them down or just pull the batteries and sell them whole. Thank you for your help.

Get you a set of digital scales and offer him $2-$2.50 a pound.

If they are cell phones check the price-lists on the Buyers Page and work some numbers.

If they are business phones some have great resale value on Ebay but you need to research the brands and models.

Regular home phones I would not pay for.

I would sell the two barrels full of working Nortel office phones I have for .10 t0 .20 per lb just to get them out of here.
Hardly worth the time stripping for scrap.

Be careful with business phones. Some are low grade boards like Toshiba DKT2000 series and most Panasonic. Norstar phones are higher grade boards BUT most of the boards are real small. I just weighed one from a T7208 and it is 1.16oz so almost 16 phones for 1 pound of boards. M7208 are about the same.
Most old AT&T, Avaya have good boards, Also Isotec, some Executone, NEC and Intertel phones are good.
The money is in the control units. I just scrapped 3 big Avaya Definity units the size of a refrigerator and 1 small one. Just the 11 back plane boards, with gold pins, sold for $205.
