    Need e scrap advice

I do not really get into the escrap, but had an opportunity to get some free towers (complete). I know the condition of these and all were running, but two had dead motherboards.

Had some luck with ebay selling some of the ribbon cables for the cd roms so that prompted a question.

*****I know the gold parts to pull*****

But is it worth it to desolder and sell the components? I mean like capacitors, etc...

Any help would be appreciated. Learning a lot from you guys and this knowledge is helping me pay off some incredible med bills. (Yes I have insurance, doesn't mean it is any good.)

    Thanks again

I doubt if desoldered parts would sell much better than a non-working board, but, who knows. I recall guys at school buying surplus transistor filled boards from Radio Shack as if they were gold mines, so they could remove them for use in their projects

Just so you guys know. The cables I sold were over $12 ea. Not sure what they do, but as a whim I looked them up to see if any were listed on ebay and so I listed mine. Shipping on each was less than a dollar.
I only scrap anything if that is all that is left that can be done.
The little flat ribbon cables that I am talking about are not shown in the pictures on your hyperlink.

I pull the mlcc caps off boards, theyre worth about $100 pound so its like free money, so far ive accumulated about a pound worth of them

ribbon cables are easy to process, i pull the connectors off the ends then pull the gold pins out of the them. I am left with plated gold pieces at $40 pound and insulated wire at $1 pound.

The payout on the gold plated metal over leaving the connectors intact is about 3 to 1 so i take the time to pull the pins.

The cable I am talking about are the small ones that run the laser.
About 3- 6" long depending. Have no idea what these people are doing with them because they are not even gold plated. Scrap value can't be much.
I was wanting to sort of help because of the people here are great! But also was wondering if there are other items that are this way inside the computers. I mean besides the cpu's etc...

Here is a shortcut to a similar cable. I am still at my normal job and just found out may not be home for a while.

yep thats silver mylar ribbon cable, a misleading term since it does not contain silver, its just that the contacts are silver colored as opposed to gold plated (gold mylar)

gold mylar is what to be looking for, it has very high value
