downsizing, or shortening a box is real easy. Fill it up level to where you want it, then reach inside with a utility knife, cutting each corner up from top of the filled level, then just fold each side over, using the material inside as a folding guide/support. Then trim the tops some if they're too long for folding over.
Making a box from scratch, like from a flattened washing machine or refrigerator box, or just plain flat cardboard, isn't real hard either.
You can break down another box to see the pattern, or even just make it up as you go, kinda like wrappin a present ; )
p.s. use plenty of tape. I bought 2 six roll packs of shipping tape off
Ebay 5 or 6 years ago, about the time I stopped Ebaying, and still have a full sleeve(6 rolls) left
