    Anyone scrap an elliptical?

First...sorry if in wrong place mods..it has boards and all that an lots of metal, so if I chose the wrong place to post this, feel free to move to the right spot.

Now that that's outta the way...

As most of ya know, my better half is an AGM for a hotel here on my sandbar. She was given a elliptical when they changed out the exercise equipment in the exercise room. So my question is...has anyone scrapped one? It's in decent shape, so I'm sure I could sell it for better then scrap value, but I imagine the shipping would kill me..lol.

Curious what results anyone had if they have scrapped one. Mid or high grade boards in them? Any other goodies? The one we have weighs a bunch, according to the manufacturers site they weigh 188lbs. Yet it took 5 grown men to lift this sucker into the back of the truck that brought it to the house. I believe we have an older model so it weighs lot more then 188lbs. lol. It was so heavy we didn't even attempt to take it up the stairs to the house. ( On my sandbar the majority of homes are up on stilts..you know..cause it floods an such.) So it's been stuck in the downstairs area of the house where the washer/dryer is and my workshop is. I want my space back!

Wife hardly uses it, swears she will some day, but its taken up a bunch of room and the other day she asked if i wanted to scrap it..so I ask you folks, worth it to scrap or should I just try an put it up on CL an see if I can't get a quick sale, or break this sucker down an drag it off to the yard?

Thanks for any input, and the only threads I could find on this mentioned it only briefly, lacked details and were from 2010, instead of rezzing a thread over 3 years old I opted to make this one.

Ive come across a few, I remember one machine had a gold board in it. I was like a gold board from a exerisize machine what???. Not sure if it was an elip or not so this might not help any, but they got alot of weight to them and pull all the wires if ya scrap it.

I've done a few but after loading myself only thing I wanted was to pull in the yard and let gravity take it from there.

I've done a handful of various exercise machines, and they all had pretty crappy boards in them. Wires and motors are usually good $, though. Try it on CL first, if it's in good shape. I'd guess that you should easily get better than scrap money out of it.

Thank ya folks, will give it a quick sell shot on CL. My CL isn't as active as most folks due to being on a sandbar, but what the hell, I guess I can suffer another week or two with it taking up space. An yea..in decent condition even tho its an older model.

Welp lets hope some rental home owner needs one for his house!

    Thanks again for the replies.

My local CL is also hooey, that's why I opted to list in an area slightly farther away, but with a MUCH larger audience ; )

For me that would be Va Beach/Hampton Roads/Norfolk Va area or ..Greenville/Charlotte.. the first is 2 hours away an the second is at lest 3 hours...so If I can't sell it local it'll get scrapped. Heh. Then again maybe I'll try that option, they come pick it up I'll knock some bucks off.

Thanks for the idea Bear, I try to avoid the big cities if I can help it.

2 hours aint that bad. Mine's three hours, but I'm looking at 6 million population there, BIGGG difference. Funny thing, some of my best sales have required shipping. Leaving an ad in place over time can have its advantages too

you can only list in one area per account, and you can only open one account per phone number, but you could maybe set up a second account with your wifes number, and use it for listing in another area.

Yea Sledge..Shipping might be an issue. Heh. That sucker is heavy. I'm go mess with it later and see if I can't pull a model number off it so I can track down the specs on it. I know it weighs more then 188lbs.

I'd love to send it to ya Sledge as it's a decent machine an in good condition for a commercial model.

I might look into that bear. Wouldn't mind seeing it go to a forum member, over the scrap yard or some one on CL.

One thing to check on is that in a lot of places there are used sports equipment stores. I can sell my equipment or get store credit (my kids play different sports) which is much easier than messing with CL. I just throw it in the truck and drop it off at the store.

Maybe you have a similar store nearby.
