Tore down a couple towers I got yesterday. One was PACKED with cards and RAM sticks. This was in one of the slots. I've never seen one before and have no idea what it is. The regular ram stick is for sizing comparison.

Thats a gold finger riser. They use that to couple 2 boards together threw the slot you took it out of. Think of it as a ribbon cable without the ribbon.

Yeah I have like 20 of those. But they are fingers so! Those are the better fingers.
Thank you Mick, I got one of these the other day too and was wondering the same thing. It was lumped in with a bunch of old equipment so i didn't actually get to see what it went to.

I can't see your photo but thinking you have either a daughterboard or an expansion board https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daughterboard
A daughterboard will have other slots and chips etc, and an expansion would only have slots (ISA or PCI slots etc, possibly SCSI on servers etc but that would likely be a backplane )

Ahhh Thanks Mech! Actually I've only seen a couple of those myself. Luckily it was in something I was taking apart, although I can't remember exactly what it was. I think it served as a type of connector, sliding equally into both boards/sides(whatever it was in ; )
Part Time Scrapper is correct, it is a gold finger riser. Although you do not put it in with the ribbon cable or cable connectors, you put it in this bucket:

Alot of times you find those in cisco switches...they connect the boards that run each "bank" or row of connectors. You can see those in older computers that connect a daughter or expansion board as some have mentioned.
I just pulled a dead cisco switch that had 3 rows of connectors and each board was connected with those with the bottom board having it basically soldered to it....just take some cutters or a vibrating cutoff tool and cut that off amd send in as the $44/lb vs $2-3 for the high grade boards.
