    DTV good news

I do a biweekly pickup at the main Directv office. Pretty good pick up. 76 boxes and about 150 LNB, LNA, amp. I'm not sure if we came to a consensus on what they where called. about 400 pounds of cable. They asked if I could up it to weekly pickups. Well of course but why. all that stuff fit in a regular truck bed and it was for two weeks. But hey free money, less gas, you want weekly pickups you got it. Well the reason and the good news. Directv changed there technology and about 5 box models are now not being accepted back for refurbishing. So if you have a Directv contact make sure and ask them about this. different markets are of course at different stages in technology roll outs but wanted to let yall know. Now a question. in general and I will try to post pictures. Are the boards in the boxes Mid or high grade and the LNB boards same question. Thank you.

    Sweet hookup!

Board grades, as always, depend on your buyer. The boards in the boxes, since they have all those bulky cable & RCA & other hookups along the one side, I get midgrade for those.

The LNB boards, with the full side buttery gold plating on one side and patchy plating on the other? You'd be nuts to accept much less than $10/# for those, IM (NS) HO.

    DTV good news

thank u for the info. I know its all buyer specific. just thought I'd throw it out there to the SMF world before I started bothering a buyer. I was stockpiling everything for winter. I'm afraid of another blizzard. this way I would have work. but had to break some boxes down to make more room in the barn. I have never sold any ewaste. I read the threads but still kinda struggling to figure what's what.

I got really lucky by finding Hugh Taylor at HLH&R down here in North Texas. I was clueless as all get out, but a couple hours with him sorting the truckbed full of boards I brought him, and having him explain WHY he was sorting them the way he was, really helped clear things up for me. By the time we got to the last tote, I was pretty much spot on with my sort.

Finding a buyer or fellow escrapper that'll help you with it one-on-one is the key. Ask around to other escrappers in your area is the only advice I can give on that.

You don't happen to know what kind of cooler product Hugh might like when off work do you ? Being as he is my closest e-scrap location, i may need to get to know him some time down the road here. like to reward him some way for any help or traing tips he can give me. As i know almost nothing about boards. And YES--im reading all i can find and view here on the matter.

Wish this had been posted this morning, when my Direct guy came by to shoot the ah..stuff. I'm making a note to ask him about this next time I pick up or he drops stuff off.

Thanks for the tip off. I like bashing those silly converter boxes. Ones he brings me even have the cards in them! Only need like..500 more for a lb. LOL

Sirscrapalot - Yes I know I could buy the security torx bits but..where's the fun in that.

your pretty lucky on the cards. they won't even let me buy them even offered to do onsite destruction got told they have to go back to dtv. I think once they hit the warehouse that's the rule. The boxes I get from local techs still have themI. lucked out and found one of them bits bouncing around the bottom of my toolbox.

Yea mine is a local tech, I don't deal with a warehouse, I'm going to check an see if there is even one on my sandbar. I know we have a charter one and a Centurylink. I may just have to hit them up also. Surprised I haven't yet..ha.

Either way, thanks again for the tip, I'll be asking my guy about it.

Sirscrapalot - Hoisting a cold one to Trot for the tip.

If you don't mind me asking-too late- I'm asking anyway. Do you buy this stuff from them or is this just the things that they to get out of their warehouse?

    DTV good news

I do not buy it from them. I worked for this company for about 4 yrs. I left on good terms they were having a problem with their cable piling up. one of the guys I had a barrel set up at his house told them to call me. it has escalated from picking up a pile of loose cable to me bringing them gaylords for the junk cable. they are very happy they have a way to corral it. the electronics just evolved. sorry rambling here. to answer the question. no I don't buy it.
