    CCD Sensors

CCD Sensors or charged-coupled devices are one of my favorite things to pull.
it's hard to explain but they excite me more than pulling a basic cpu or ram.
even though they may have more value then ccd's, I just value ccd's above the monetary value, I guess we all have quirks when keeping things.

In particular i'm only really into the one dimensional ccd's, the ones you can find in fax, scanners, 3 in 1 printers, copiers ect,
other types of ccd's aren't very common for me like digital ccd camera's, medical imaging and other high tech stuff,
even if I have scrapped out something like that I probably didn't recognise what the ccd was.

Silver or Gold, i'm not fussed, i'd take tin if it's worth a crust.

I have a scanner on hand so I thought i'd pull a ccd out

4 screws,a few seconds and it's all open, wish everything was so easy & clean.

Here's the ccd board right there, too easy.
I keep the bar the cradle slides along too, not sure for what but too good for shred.

This one is actually a perfect specimen to show, can you see the white strip going across? that's a very brittle little fluoro tube,
just like a regular fluoro tube, it contains a little mercury, they break real easy, like rice paper almost, you really gotta try and remove it cleanly or avoid it all together.

3 screws removed the ccd board and the transformer board, leaving the fluoro tube & cord intact. this cradle doesn't have a finger strip as a lot have.

That's about as simple as anything is to scrap and I get a thrill everytime, great value.

Oh, going back to the scanner shell, that little no grade board with two switches,
like you all know they have a spittle of silver in most, I peeled the top off this one
and there's a little gold plated tab, on top of the spittle of silver, I took one out and it's sitting
next to the switch on the right.

    Anyone else collect CCD Sensors?
To me they remind me of looking into a shop window with real expensive things,
I can look but I can't touch kind of thing.

Thank you, I didn't know scanners contained mercury. Then again I've never broken one down before. Keep up the good work!

Yep, I got a small tote full of em.. the slide bar makes great punches to knock the little brass bushing out of things. I would think the rods should be prepared or HMS, some rods from printers and scanners are pretty beefy. Does anyone know what the rods are made of, they are very heavy for there size.

I always pull those boards out of scanners and some printers but I sell mine to my e-waste buyer (mid grade)

Its offical, they do sell these bars on Ebay.

I read in a model engineers book where the guy brought some 'barstock' off ebay

I've stripped some of those bars out of printers and photocopiers and was quite surprised when chucking them up in a metal lathe. They (or at least the ones I had) were harder than h*ck, and may have had a thin chrome plating. Likely just high-carbon steel and surface hardened for wear resistance. And all metric sizes!!

I'm with HappyScrapper. I chunk them in a box with my other mid-grade to be recycled.

Have a look at some other CCD's, like the one a cellphone camera or a old video camera. They really are beautiful.

I have one here that appears to have gold legs and gold in the window.
