    Silver in Laserjets

Photo below, though blurry, shows at Left one of two connectors to be found in HP Laserjet 2300, solid silver not plate, weight for two is 2.3 grams. At right one of the two found in a Laserjet 1022, again NOT plated but solid silver, weight 2.1 grams for a pair. I'm all but positive (as it's not been proven ) that similar connectors will be found in most laserjets. As you're facing the front of the unit, at top right at the end of the roller there's two wires approx. 1.5 inches long, pull those puppies out and this is what you've got. Mechanic sorry about your burst bubble on the discs but when one door closes another opens! And this is a much heavier door!

Try hitting them with a grinder. The ones I find seem to be very heavy plated copper. I was disappointed when I found out. Lots of silver plated components are overlay on either brass or copper.

As I said, these are solid silver. I took a file and notched them, then used a silver test kit. Actually, a friend who has a rare coin store did the testing. I would not have said they were silver if it hadn't been proven.

I found that if I cut thru a silver plated wire, the outer silver layer slips down over the copper face & it makes it look like its solid silver. Even with a magnifying glass.

The best way to check is to notch it a little & bend the wire over & over till it breaks. You get to see the copper end face, its crystal structure & colour & the outer silver layer if its thick enough.
