I didn't get in to computers through the ewaste dept. I initially began buying them as a hobby and to rebuild. I didn't want to see it laying in pieces all over the floor, but to get it on the test bench and see what it had in it, and that meant getting it working first when necessary. Another great thing about being an "owner/operator", I didn't have to worry if it went up in smoke(although that never happened, I did make a few mistakes along the way)
Just like any other venture, if you start out on a few sour notes, it can rapidly lose its appeal, but if you get a few trophies early on you'll never look back and most of my early purchases came from NASA, some of which began their life well into 6 figures.
I've scrapped more than I ever imagined I would, and the first few tons weren't because I really wanted to, they just had to get gone, but I'm still inclined to check one out before breaking it down
