    Medal Detector

I've got a very cheap metal detector that finally petered out, anything inside worth digging out?

why don't you just do it and figure it out? then post up here your findings

my hunch is if it doesn't have any heft to it, like the super cheap detectors do, there isn't too much value in it. There should be copper windings in the head, a decent battery in the case, copper wiring, and maybe a small board. Good luck!

Mike the scrapper did one, there is a bit in the head from what I can remember. It was worth opening it up, not much else in there though.

Oh, the irony of looking for treasure IN a metal detector instead of WITH one.

My brother bought me a radio shack metal detector a long time ago, probly about 68 or so. Back in the days they were sold as a kit, and it had to be put together. It had one chip in there that had 12 or 14 legs. Musta been a processor of some sort. That's the only part I remember, the legs were so close together it was hard to solder without the solder running over to another leg

I've been wondering about this myself, so when this thread came up I decided to scrap one and see. This is a Micronta Discovery 2 that is shot beyond recovery.

After taking it apart, the yields are:
    Insulated wire 1.5 oz
    steel 2.4 oz
    plastic 1 lb 7.2 oz
coil wire 3.3 0z copper coil, thin wire
    aluminum tube 6 oz
circuit board 3.7 oz mid grade
Total weight 2 lb 8.1 oz
