Thought I would share this. First time I ever saw it, but I'm sure some of u big timmers have before. Wondering how common it really is.
Just completed tearing apart a Quasar 21 inch tv that was made march 1985. As soon as I got the back off I could see the degaussing cable and it was about the size of a quarter. I figured it was alum because of how thick it was, and I was right, (dang). Usually there is a flat tinned piece of copper wire that connect 2 or 3 corners together, acting as a ground, (I GUESS, DON'T REALLY KNOW FOR SURE). Usually I cut the loops that go aound the corner, cut the ferrous spring off and throw wire in my clean #2 buckett.
But weight!?!?!? There is no wire. Instead it was three pieces of thin alum, about a 1/4 inch wide. The three pieces were bradded together. Connected to the corners of the tube by a small piece of steel wire wrapped around the corner bolts.
Usually there is a couple small insulated copper wires that connect the braided wire to the board. That was replaced with a couple pieces of thin alum pieces as well, except they were coated (insulated) with plastic coating that then connected to the. Plug which plugs into the board!?!?!?
As u can see it doesn't take much to amuse me!!!...I. would say this isn't nothing new for most of u, but thought I would sare it anyways.
Please feel free to post any kind of finds that anyone has and thinks it is out of the norm. It doesn't have to be dealing with crt degaussing coil or even electronics! THANX GUYS/GALS
