Got a good laugh today from an ewaste companies prices (not from here)

A couple days ago an Ewaste company from southern NH stopped by the company I work for (Town Recycling Center). So with me being the manager, we talk for a while and I tell him that I do computer recycling on the side so I know how much things are worth and that he would have to "sharpen his pencil" when giving a price. So he gets back to me and these are his prices:

    PICKUP CHARGE:
    $75.00

    ITEMS HE PAYS FOR:
    Computers - $0.10/Lbs
    Hard Drives - $0.05/Lbs
    LCD Monitors - $0.50 each
    Laptops Complete - $0.15/Lbs
    Cell Phones - $0.75/Lbs
    Computer/Printer Power Cords - $0.15/Lbs

    STUFF HE TAKES FOR FREE:
    Printers
    Fax Machines
    Scanners
    Misc Electronics

    STUFF HE CHARGES FOR:
CRT's - $0.17/Lbs (In the ball park at least)
    Large Copiers - $0.10/Lbs
    Game Consoles - $0.10/Lbs
    Computer Backup Systems - $0.10/Lbs
    Microwaves - $0.05/Lbs
    NiCad Batteries - $0.20/Lbs
    NiMH - $0.60/Lbs
    Alkaline - $0.78/Lbs
    Lithium Ion - $0.80/Lbs
Button Cells (Including silver Oxide) - $3.75/Lbs

He should do very well with Lithium Ion batteries. Charging 80 cents per pound and then selling them for $1.00 plus per pound. He might make more than many of us, as the people paying him to take things away may not know any better.

With town/city Recycling Centers we have to be very carefull with who we sell to. They need all certificates, insurance, etc. Which is great but because of this, they can usually lowball on most items. He is the first one that acually pays for computers that I have found. Most take them for free.

Around my area, there are 3 major ewaste players:
    #1 - Person above
    #2 - Charges $0.16 for everything w/$105 pickup charge
#3 - CRT's are $0.21/LB and everything else is free. Has a $75 pickup charge

This is not untypical among yards around the country. We think because of the 12,000+ members on this forum every one is in the know. there are 350,000,000 in this country and 1000s of scrap yards, and 10s of thousands of scrappers and most are not in the know... Most yards still give those kind of prices for e scrap. and many many e scrap yards still charge to drop off any e scrap. My biggest customer was given a bid of $500.000 to haul off 900,000 lbs of servers.

The biggest thing that is holding back me as a manager is regulations. I can't sell items to uncertified people because of the rules. We could be fined for small things like selling metal to an unregistered scrap yard. This almost happened to a near by facility a few months ago. They sold Aauminum cans and got caught. State said if they do it again, they will be fined.

For me, it is frustrating because I see a possibility to be one of the first Municiple Recycling Centers in the state to make a profit for a change and can't do it because of the rules.

There is an R2 certified buyer in the buyers section that would probably be able to beat this even with shipping lol.

Your best bet is to take the computers apart if your allowed to, but rules at recycling centers can be very arbitrary

Yes those great leaders who are there just to save us, of course I am referring to the politicians who want to get re-elected. I am certain all those regulations were justified as good government but it just costs the tax payers and does little or nothing to clean up the environment. Here locally we are required to "properly" dispose of crt's of course the only acceptable place is owned by the county and there is a charge. If the county officials wanted to have crt's and tires for that matter disposed of "properly" they would make it easy and no charge. This is a re-occurring story and I wish you the best of luck and I admire you for your efforts. Mike

I was going to say ill come by and blow that deal out of the water. I'm not ready. Can't keep up down here in mass.
Call Sean st phoenix core. He is well educated aggressive and by far the best electronics buyer I've meet in NE. Sorry if you think your better. Just haven't meet you lol.

This guy will have success. Seems he should just take it all for free and make out. Prices are weird. But two months ago I didn't knowmcrap about electronics. Now I walk around with a memory stick on my necklace. Memory gangsta. Call Sean.

    IMO.

We are blessed to have this fourm. Even helped me today grading boards for a buyer.

I have done a few loads to Sean. Mostly I use Ewasted. Been using him for a couple years now. To the point now where I ship out a few gaylords at a time.

After talking with the company, they are willing not to charge for large copiers, game systems, and battery backups. They will also buy our surplus gaylords which is great. So we will be sending the CRT's, LCD monitors, and misc electronics to him.

We will use him for the CRT's, LCD Monitors, and the Printers/Scanners/Fax/Misc Electronics. But everything else is a joke in my opinion. I will be emailing him back tomorrow with a counter offer but for somebody that I told him right up front that I know how much these things are worth it is a slap in the face in my opinion.
It is not a slap in your face and it shouldn't be taken that way. You asked for a price and they gave you what they pay based on how they have set up their company. There are a lot of people on the forum who go out buying scrap metal and E Waste and if I was to ask them for pricing it would be way lower than I even paid for the material. Does that insult me or think they are trying to rip me off. NO..They are buying material based on a idea that they have figured out that works for them. Many E Waste companies are more of a Asset Recovery company and buying scrap is secondary .Instead of bashing and trying to expose another company that gave you what you asked for go out and fill a void that they have left you an opening for in your area. Quit your job and make millions(im being sincere). If everyone paid top prices then you wouldn't be getting very much . Be thankful that you can ship to Mario and make money. Praise his system but don't bash someone else. The key to making money in the industry is finding the best way to make the most on certain items and dealing with the rest of the items the best you can. It is a game of averages.....

I am not bashing them. I didn't even give up their name. I will be using them for a bunch of items. Some items are very competitive.

I was told one thing and then given a different price. Just shocked by some of the charges.

I forget some people on here take things too serious. Sorry I will change my original post so it sounds better.
