    Yes don't melt its hard to say what you have.

    Also the silver pins are junk unless you have hundreds of pounds of them.

    The value of gold to silver right now is 63.5/1 and silver weighs less then gold so the plating weighs less too.

    Also military pins are deceptive too. I have had pins range from .8g pound to 3.75g pound so its hard to tell from a blob but you can get a good indication from looking at them.
