We're probably about even now. We do a lot of trading. A few months ago I gave him a server and a battery backup.

I have a few of those slocket processor/boards myself. Plus a number of normal slot processor boards. All still gathering dust. Call it my retirement account

I recently purchased a 100+ network switches and am slowly breaking them down. Sold some of the newer switches. Also, just this weekend I attended an auction for some old TV Station equipment. Bought a truckload of stuff for less than $100 with tax and BP. Could of gotten more after the auction for free but I was full and this was 3hr drive from the house. Here are some of the boards I've pulled out so far. Did get a pentium pro CPU and 2x pentium 3 CPUs.

Nice boards! That board with the wire- do you cut that off or leave it on? I haven't ever run across a Pentium Pro in my 10 years of scrapping yet. I guess I just haven't found the right one yet. But I have come across several Pentium 3s. Has anyone come across a slot CPU with a ceramic CPU soldered to it? If I remember to, I will try and post a picture of the one I have. It's pretty cool looking.

After emailing ewasted I'll be de-populating the IC chips. I'll also cut the wires and the round iron pieces off the other board.

I went dumpster diving a my place of work yesterday and found some pretty good stuff. 4 amplifiers, 3 phone systems, 5 data switches and a UPS.

The grinder and the sawzall were a gift from my neighbor. Both work. He also said he had 2 Redmax trimmers and a table saw I could have. I don't really need them but I could probably make a few bucks off of them.

Man - they just toss that stuff in the trash? I'm depressed every day at work when I see all the surplus / scrap that I can't have. On the University side it all goes to sale, or to a "state" scrapper. On the hospital side it all goes to 1 guy that is responsible for destruction. There is so much ewaste in the scrap it's not funny.

Talked to a wow technician and asked him about their old equipment. He said if it's still good they refurb it. If it's old / bad they just toss it. Sort of hard to think they really do that, but now I'm wondering.

I one time purchased a lot of outdated tv cable boxes and assorted equipment on 2 server racks from the University of Virginia hospital. Bought it on a local auction site for only $8.34 after premiums and taxes. Spent hardly anything, and made about $400 off it. Still have the 2 server racks, and they now hold a server, and a few switches among other things. I might try and dig for a picture of the lot, but I know I don't have pictures of the boards inside the cable boxes. I do still have all 40 activation cards. Each one was for 1 channel. So, 1 card got A&E, one got Discovery, one got History, etc. It was pretty cool. As a side note, anyone know of a good place to sell these cards, or SIM cards with them? Is eBay the best, or what? That's the only reason I still have them. I want to get a fair price for them, and not over price them. Thanks!

This is one of the items I picked out of the dumpster last week. I wasn't sure what was inside but it's really just a small computer.

I got a few pieces of aluminum, heat sink, memory, 160 gig hard drive and a few small boards.

Power boards and heat sinks.

I scrapped some paging amplifiers this morning and found some nice heat sinks. There was one that had transistors down both sides and they were screwed on with those small hollow torx screws that always seem to strip when removing. It went straight into my power board box. The other two below were attached with 4 phillips head screws and were very easy to remove.

Harris Lanier Series lll phone system

Another mid 80's phone system I found Thursday while I was moving another phone system. The customer said it was hanging on the wall when they moved in 20 years ago and told me I could have it.

It had 2 decent boards but there are about 25 small transformers that need to be removed.

I checked the price of transformers and they have dropped to 4 cents a pound. I've been getting .25 a pound for a while so I've been selling them for that.

Since the price has dropped so much I decided to break out the band saw and these are the results.

Total transformer weight before cutting was 84.10 pounds.

I ended up with 63.10 lbs of metal, 17.35 lbs of #2 copper, 3.20 lbs of plastic and trash and .45 lbs was unaccounted for.

I know I've scrapped these before, just never posted any pics.
I consider this system as a turd compared to all others. If any of you have a business with one of these, you know what I mean.
The 2 main points of failure are shown in pic 3. The bottom left pic is the power board and it will not power up the system when it goes bad.
The bottom right pic is the main board that all of the other ones plug into. It goes bad a lot causing static on the stations and trunks.
I did test the power board and it works which means the main board has gone bad. I'm going to keep the power board on my truck for spare parts.
