I got these boards from a Cisco Catalyst 5000. They are 16"X16".
The center board had a nice looking processor on it.

Nice!
I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!
Got a call from one of my contacts last week and they are cleaning out their warehouse again. I brought home about 1000 pounds of telephone and computer equipment and a lot of Valcom paging equipment.
The boxes look old but most of the Valcom stuff has never been used or is in working condition. I didn't have time to get a good inventory but there are a lot of amps, page control units, speakers, horns, power supplies and door phones.
The good thing is I've been installing this stuff for a long time now and can test all of it.
Definitely better than scrap value!!!
It's a huge advantage knowing how to test items. For me its the profit multiplier. Congrats on a great score Mike

Now go beat the copper out of something, Miked
I stopped by the shop this afternoon to throw some trash away and discovered they had been cleaning out the warehouse again. The dumpster was about 3/4 full of old phone systems, new CAT 5e patch cords, facelpates and RJ-45 jacks, new Bogen and TAO microphones, digital telephones and boxes I haven't even looked in yet and telecom boards. I got my ladder out and did some serious dumpster diving. I actually climbed in the thing. Going back in the morning to finish up.
I got about 40 telecom boards, 2 power supplies and some kind of tape drive.
Desktop mics. I'm not sure if these will sell, but we will see.
I find cards like the one below occasionally. Looks like some modifications were made, maybe to fix a problem the card was having.
I finally got the transformers out of this thing scrapped. There were 3 of them and they weighed 263 pounds, 65 pounds and 50 pounds. I ended up with 91 pounds of copper and they graded it as #1 @ $1.65 lb because it was so big.
If I ever come across one of these again, I'm going to run.

I got a call the other day from a company that refurbs data and telecom equipment and ended up with 500+ pounds of servers and switches. Found out that there was a guy that was buying this stuff from them by the pound but he is no longer in the business so it's been stacking up and they needed it gone. They also told me they had a gaylord full of Nortel boards but they are saving them and are looking for a buyer. I've never had to buy scrap before but I'm going to stop back by there next week and make them an offer.

I wanted to post some more pics of business phones I've been getting recently. All of the phones below have 1 or 2 good boards and some have a low grade board in them also.
I like to show what's inside these phones in case any of you run across any and wonder if they are worth scrapping. There are some phones that have nothing but brown boards in them and they are not worth scrapping.
If you have the ability to test business phones and can get better than scrap value for them that would be even better.

Going through my latest load and found a few interesting things.
I remember connecting these to 12 volt batteries and using them for backup power to phone systems.
My neighbor was asking if I had one of these just last week. Need to give him a call.
Digit grabber for analog trunks. I've never seen one like this.
Breakout box still in sealed bubble wrap. Need to know the pin out of a RS232 cable? We used these back in the 80's.
Iwatsu speed dial programmer.
If I remember correctly you put the chip in, program all of your numbers in and then place the chip back on the CPU of the phone system.
I ended up with 1,080 pounds of monitors, desktop computers, and servers today. The picture here is just of the servers. Most of them came with 10k and 15k hard drives. Breakdown is going to take some work for sure. Sure hope this all eventually pans out for me. I'm on an island in Alaska and the cost to ship the e-recycle stuff is going to be high. Figure it's worth a try now. I guestemate that I have over 600 computers/servers, 500 monitors, and an untold number of battery backups, printers, marine electronics, and tv's.
There's been a lot of discussion on the forum about current prices and modern technology, especially how everything in electronics is getting smaller.
I've seen this over the last few years as I install new phone systems. The board below is a good example.
It is a 16 port analog station card. It's 17"x14" and weighs 1.7 pounds. A 10 year old 8 port analog station card weighs almost twice that because the components are so much bigger.
This card can also be ordered equipped with 30 ports. On the right side of the board you'll notice that most of it has no components at all. This is where the other 14 ports would be in the 30 port model.
Most of the stuff I get is 10-25 years old and there's still a lot of it out there. You just have to know where to look.
I need to send these pics to my buyer and see how they would be graded.

I found this in a load of scrap I brought home yesterday.
I have a coffee can full of eproms if I ever get bored.
10 more PBX back planes.
I love those back planes. The few I have gotten have done well(in my opinion) on ebay. Thank you for sharing. Mike
I took a vacation day today and I'm going to start on the stack of servers.
About half of them are small socket P4's but some are dual small and large socket.
omg those back planes should be censored, naughty pics yeesh this is a family site lol
"I got about 40 telecom boards, 2 power supplies and some kind of tape drive."
Hey howdy. I'll post a new thread in a moment, but I wanted to ask about the left-hand stack of boards in this photo. I now own 15 to 20 of boards that look very much like these (mid 90s to early 00s, Avaya) of various types. Of course I'm going to google them, but are boards of this vintage ever worth re-selling or do you scrap them as a matter of course? I know, probably mostly scrap except for the special one or two, but I thought I'd ask...
I don't have photos of the boards yet, but I'll put up some other photos momentarily...
Cheers,

jimicrk-
I just took the time to read all the way through your thread- as others have said: thanks! I really get a kick out of seeing what's inside some of these things. I'm a very, very part time scrapper and don't work with escrap very often. When I do it's usually the standard dead desktop Dells, not the telecom stuff, which is more varied and interesting.
I'm always wrestling with the question of if/when/how much do I clean up boards to increase their value. Since I don't usually do a lot of volume I would have the time to pick over my boards one at a time if I felt it was worth it. I can generally identify the heavy/worthless components but, unfortunately, unlike your tantalum capacitor notes, I've never seen good before/after numbers on how much of an improvement is made by cleaning boards.
For example, on page 8 (I think) you have several pictures of boards from a joe-average Lucent/Avaya phone. I now have 50 (or 60 or 70) boards that look pretty much like this one- pretty ho-hum. Can these be improved by tearing off the capacitors and flyback transformers and such? It wouldn't reduce the weight by much, but if I get an extra $0.25 a pound for the cleaner boards it might be worth it- I only see so many pounds a year. Is this something you negotiate with your buyer on a case by case basis, or do you have some rules of thumb regarding when/what to clean and when to just chuck the things in a box?
Many thanks in advance- and cheers!

There's a few examples in my thread where I talk about removing transformers, metal brackets and other items to increase the value but it's really your buyer that decides.
I regularly send pictures to my buyer for grading and pricing. He gets back with me and might say $2.00 a pound but if you remove this and that, I'll give you $2.50 a pound.
I don't usually remove anything from the boards that come from phones. Any wires speakers and lcd's are removed but that's all.
It's going to depend on your buyer. If you don't have one start looking. There are some great buyers here at the SMF but you may already have one locally with good prices and not know it.
