Some of my ewaste finds (Pics included)

Some of you already know that I've been installing phone systems for a long time now and this is my main source of ewaste.

The first 3 pics below are of a system I recently removed after installing the new one.

The customer wanted to know if I could remove all of the old equipment and the 70+ phones and haul it off.

Yes sir, I sure can and anything else you need removed.

I got 11 boxes of phones and 3 or 4 of them had never been opened. That's between 24 and 32 new in the box phones.

There were 3 battery backups, the pc for the voicemail and the 3 phone cabinets.

I always keep the screws and zip tie clips after cleaning off the backboard. I can't see throwing away good screws. I'll reuse them on my next install.

There are 3 more battery backups, 5 boxes of assorted cables and circuit boards and some more old data equipment that I think they are going to let me have.

This isn't a big load compared to some but I get these on a regular basis and it usually leads to more later.

When I get through with a job the main thing is to make sure the customer is happy, the room is clean and that they have all of my contact information.

I installed a phone system back in 1988 and my contact from that job still calls me at least twice a year to pick up stuff.

I was sorting some cards this morning and found a few interesting items.

The card at the top is a processor that came off of a Polycom VOIP phone system. Lots of TC's and it had a memory stick in it.

Also found 2 purple gold cap chips.

I received some central office equipment and these are the back planes. This side had lots of TC's ............

and lots of gold plated pins on the other.

A mans got to know his limitations!

I remember the days when this wouldn't be a problem, but I almost got in over my head on my last pickup.

This contact had an IT room with three 4 post racks full of servers, switches, pc's and battery backups that needed to be removed. They pulled the hard drives and said they wanted the rest destroyed. All of it is outdated anyway so sure.

Here's 2 of the 4 bigger battery backups. Each weighed 160 pounds. There were 2 more that were about 100 pounds each.

I'm guessing at least 500 pounds of batteries and possibly 600.

This pic shows the 6 battery backups in the back. There were about 16 servers and 4 data switches also.

The next 2 pics are of a HP Proliant BL680c G5 server. This thing is a beast, probably 200 to 250 pounds. I did managed to get it home and in my garage.

After removing all of the heavy stuff. I need to make 1 more trip to remove all of the power cords and patch cables and clean up a bit.

Have to say your lucky with your job to get these opportunities.........If that would have been placed on surplus auction would have brought 100's perhaps 1000's......I do get a lot of deals though so I just keep buying

I picked up 10 pc's, a server and a small NEC phone system the other day. The 4 on the bottom left have Pentium 3 processors and the big Dell server sitting on top of them has dual P3 processors.
I think I'll fire them up and see if they work. I have a battery backup I need to test.
The IT guy left a fairly new battery backup when they moved. They usually buy new ones and have them delivered, that way they don't have to move them.

I was finally able to get back to this site and finish removing everything from the racks. I swept the floor real good and was able to make 3 more pickups on the way home. Stopped by the battery place and dropped off 671 pounds of batteries and headed home.

I was moving some things around today and remembered you asking about a pc I had picked up.

It's an 8 port AXXESSORY Talk Voicemail for an Inter-Tel AXXESS phone system. It was still working when I removed it so I'm going to hang onto it for a while and see if I can sell it.

It has a Socket 3 mother board and a ceramic processor but I'm not sure what kind.

Later generation 486 board since it has 3 72 pin SIMM slots (is it PCI?). Should sell easy enough especially in that nice clean case.

Not sure if it's PCI or not or even how to tell.
There's still a few businesses around that have these old systems so I might see if they need a spare system for parts.
I have 24 new phones still in the original boxes for this type of phone system.

I've been letting my transformers pile up for about a year now and since the price is back up to .25 a pound I decided to sell them as is.

I loaded up almost 1300 pounds today and took them to the yard.

Trying to make room for what I'm bringing home tomorrow.

Some transformers, the 'double yellow one on the right, if you smack them in the center, they break in 1/2 and you can pull the Copper wire out by hand.
Just a example, sorta like the microwave transformers, easy to pop open.

By the look of it you simply don't have to time to do it. I find a similar one in PSU's, they get saved up till I get to the point I need some extra $ and have enough #2 Copper wire to sell, the extra helps the deal along.

Anything smaller, like the rest of the transformers, small motors, floppy drive motor windings & induction coils get sold for 'Copper bearing Iron' $. It feels good to get rid of them, and get paid for it!

Youtube videos that scare me!

I've been watching a lot of videos this week about things we don't discuss on this forum. Some are interesting but most are very scary.

I've said this before but I'm perfectly content scrapping electronics and selling the ferrous, non ferrous, batteries, transformers and circuit boards to local buyers.

I could be making more but I am making a profit that I'm very pleased with.

At the end of the day I still have all my fingers and skin. I can deal with the sore muscles.

I got a call from a guy this week that heard I scrapped computers and wanted to know if I was interested.

I thought it was going to be 10 or less but they had 35 old dells, 3 dell servers, 2 battery backups, 1 POE data switch and a few monitors.

One of the pc's looks like it was used for gaming. My son has already claimed it for himself. I don't know if it's anything special but I'll check it out.

I know it has 4 ram/memory sticks that are 32 gigs each.
