First load of e-waste (Pic included)

Brought in my first load of ewaste. Have been collecting it since the fall. Havent acquired much over the winter though. No truck/busy with work. None the less managed to get $172 for my load. $102 for mixed motherboards, $20 in insulated wire, $24 in Li-ion batteries and $20 or so in . Power supplies.

    Power supplies where .20lb
Motherboards $1.50 (I know forum buyers pay more but being in canada shipping this small amount just doesnt work out for me.)
Wire at .50 (mixed comp wire and power cords)
And li-ion batteries where at 0.60. (Again I know forum buyers pay more)

This is the only place in town that buys small amounts of ewaste off individuals. At The bigger yard, you need an account and gaylords of material. If I had the time, space and start up cash, id consider buying ewaste from the public and shipping to our buyers here. Maybe one day.

Also met a fellow looking for complete laptops and laptop charging cables. Got his contact info, and will no longer clip laptop cables!

If I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all...

Nice load saved up. Is it better to leave the wire on the power supplies than snip them?

I agree with selling what you can when you can. Keep turning and burning and as your quantity increases, you can get better prices and consider different buyers.

This spring will bring changes to the way I operate. I'll have a much more organized workspace (not to mention upgrades that will make it winter friendly) and will be dedicating more time to the e waste side of things. Bossman has givin me permission to put an ewaste drop off bin at the corner of our shops lot.

I would clip the wire off the power supplies because you are only getting .20 a pound for power supplies and .50 a pound for wire. You are losing .30 a pound, leaving the wire on the power supplies. It is a nice looking haul though. I hope to find a good local buyer for all my boards soon. Keep up the good work.

Only reason I got .50 was cause it was a bunch of mixed wire. Alot of real small PC wires and larger power cords. If I where to seperate it all id have gotten paid more. But im not going to have 5-6 seperate containers for wire. Will just take it to a yard that doesnt have so many ins wire categories. As for the power supplies, if I cut the wires, it then turns into shred. They will not buy them at .20lb with missing wires.

Very nice but,Looks like you lost a minimum of $70 just on the mother boards.

Please elaborate! Lol I know the pricing on them sucked but I didnt have many options. Being the first time taking in e waste, I really didnt know what to expect. I did ask how they want it seperated so next time I will get the most out of my boards.

The one frustrating thing was when I called to get pricing a month ago, i asked if they had different mobo grades. Chinese, etc. The woman said no they are all priced the same. Not the case when I called today. They where real helpful and friendly though when I arrived.

You didn't "lose" on $70. I'm assuming this place was close to you. The motherboards and batteries would have been two fedex boxes say 0.50/lb for shipping them if you were in the states (and depending where you were). You made out well for a small amount of material in my opinion.

About 10 mins away. Really close. If I shipped my stuff I may get a few bucks more, but then id have to wait for payment, and it wouldnt be cash! I love cash

Agreed. Not only that, but interaction with local people and businesses in this area of interest is much more beneficial than doing business through mail.

Nice haul! At the yard I go to here they pay .08/lb more to leave the wiring in the power supplies. They also buy the cd/dvd rom and floppy drives off of me for a higher rate than normal shred. Motherboards are only 1.30/lb here so I'm going to be stock piling.
