    Another IC-EPROM Question

I have been saving these separately from other IC chips because they have the line marked on left, I assumed line indicated + polarity. But now I do not have a clue why I kept separate and cannot find any previous posts related to them. Anyone that can enlighten me as to if they are anything special from regular ic chips/eproms I would appreciate it.

The line means nothing as to value.
    None of these are EPROMs
The line on the diode on the bottom right does indicate the cathode, or negative side of the device.
That is not the case with the other devices

Only ones I save Scrappy is the ones with windows, that are gold, or have the gold legs.

Otherwise I only remove them if I'm bored an usually only from low grade, brings down the value on my higher grade boards.

I know you have a "OMG IT"S GOLD!™" bucket...right? If not we may have to restrict your access to the cooler!

All ic chips have gold bonding wires running through them people. If you are not going to refine them you can sell them for $4-$6 per pound depending on your buyer!!! I dont leave any that are socketed on the boards. Your giving away money if you do!!! Buyers are not paying more for boards with them on.

For high grade boards I remove any chips that are not permanently attached. If it sits in a socket it comes off. Never been downgraded for removing socketed chips and never been paid more for leaving them on. Leave a processor on a china board and see if you get paid more for it.

Whats the price difference on ceramic vs normal?

Also with the windows, I have a bunch with windows, but none show gold, at least I dont see gold. Should I have 3 buckets? normal, ceramic, and windows?

They may not pay extra for them, but the weight still helps.

An yes I remove socketed ones. I don't prying things off my higher grade boards tho unless it's GOLD an I can see it.

Anyhow..listen to BC, much as it pains, he does know what he's talking about..unless it comes down to Football.

Thanks for everyone's input. I strip mine from low grade boards and only socketed ones on high grade. I have local buyer for my low grade and he let's me strip them of anything I want and still pays me 10 cents a pound. Way i see it, why leave a $5 a pound part on a .10 cents a pound board....strip those suckers! I hoard my gold/silver window chips though no matter what they are on.

Ceramic chips are normally older, back when Gold was worth less than it is now, so they used more Gold then.

Double check the windowed chips, theres 4 sorts, Gold or Silver wires, and Gold or Silver backgrounds
Have a close look at the actual chip, see what its sitting on, it looks like a silver paint or a goldy brown paint under/around the actual chip.
Its actually a metallic paint thats used as a heatsink for the chip.

I save the chips that I can can get and sort them into styles.
You can take the chips and roast them in a small drum untill the plastics turned to charcoal.
Then seive out the legs and chips from the powder, then use a gold pan to get the gold connection wires.
Theres still Gold bits stuck to the legs and sometimes Gold plated legs, that you don't get the Gold from. A proper Gold refinery will get this Gold.
Im expecting I will have to use a belt sander to sand off the visible legs. And a microwave door as a seive...

I have sorted the chips based on style, flat packs, plug ins, solder thru's, J leg eproms, so I can get a proper return rate for when I do it.
Im going to use a gas bottle as a container (all care taken!) And partly full scrapped gas bottles to fuel the gas burner. Maybe return the excess roasting gas back into the burner too (since I just thought of it..)

Windowed eproms will get sold though.

In the OP's photos, the bottom row, the chip with a sheet of metal sticking out the top. Thats probably a power chip or something.
The heatsink is normally Copper or Ali, mostly Tinned Copper, they have a value because of the Copper.
Snip the edge of one to see whats inside it.
The chunky 3 legged transisters are the same, Copper bearing transisters. Remove any solder or board, roast to remove plastic, seive to get Copper.

These are what I get my "Copper value quote" from. "If you have a peice of Copper the size of a one cent coin. Its worth..
    one cent"
