Review of: Planet Green Ink Jet Buying Program

Let me start out by saying this, I am attempting to review a company that does not (to the best of my knowledge) advertise on this forum and as such should be fair game. If I am wrong in posting this please let me know.

So as anyone who has built an e-waste business up knows, the phone rings at least 3-5 times a day with people cold calling in an attempt to buy this or that. Normally, I never think twice about politely dismissing them. One day a lady from Planet Green called and said that they were a real player in the ink cartridge game. We had a conversation in which she told me they had a 86% acceptance rate of ink cartridges which caught my attention. I went through the overly complicated process of setting up an account, and I decided to send them a trial amount of cartridges. I only sent ink jet cartridges from printers that I KNEW FOR SURE were functioning properly and were functional when I sent them. Cartridges that were still in the factory packaging but were out of date by a few months were sent as were cartridges from my personal and business computers. We get 10-20 printers a week here but it took several months to get enough controlled cartridges to send in.

The company lets you print your own label and requests that you send in 20 cartridges at a time. I sent in 40 cartridges to further off-set their shipping costs. Each cartridge I sent in was carefully individually wrapped in a sandwich bag to ensure no damage in shipping and sent packed with bubble wrap. The below pictorial represent my results with this company…

This is what I sent in meticulously documented…

    A closer look...

Shipping took 10 days to get there and processing took 10 business days

    This is what came back...

I have laid it all out right here...

Total that they paid: $13.70---Total that I sent in: $42.80---Total difference: $29.10
Cartridges they rejected: 16---Cartridges that they admit rejecting: 10---Unaccounted cartridges: 6

Average value of a cartridge that they rejected: $ 1.82
Average Value of a cartridge they accepted: $0.57

Total value of 40 cartridges @ Green Planet: $13.70
Total value of 40 cartridges @ Staples: $80.00
Amount lost by using Green Planet versus using Staples: 66.30

Here is the kicker, Green planet is one of those companies that does not send send a check unless your total equal 25.00 That means I'd have to send them another load and lose another large sum of money just to get paid. Verdict: I would NEVER, EVER use this company again. They can keep the 13.70, I'll take that as a loss. If anyone has PERSONAL experience with a REPUTABLE company, I'm now in the market again.

Little known fact, all 6 of the HP-61s were completely missing from my order and not even shown as rejected. As of today (9-13-2014) those happen to be the best selling ink cartridge at both Staples and Amazon, how coincidental huh? I also KNOW for a fact these were good because I bought them from Staples myself and pulled them out of my PERSONAL computer at home myself.

Staples rewards may not be cash but anyone can easily spend 20.00 at staples in the course of running their business, especially with the custom printing stuff now available in store.

Looks like ecycle did the same thing to you! Same 25.00 limit and same thing with high end cartridges coming up scratched. Wonder if they are the same company?

Yep so far no mail in place looks good. But you should contact them to see what they say and post there answer, so far I think you are the first to try planet green. And I can't find on there website the $25 min for check! These guys suck if that is not mentioned until you send them in!

I probably produce alot more printer waste than most........This month close to 4,000lbs.......Reason being is as I can pick these up for $2-$5 per pallet.......I cherry pick the best and sell on ebay and scrap the rest........I was using office max but have found better pricing on all office supplies at other places..........I just give these away at this point (I know leaving money on the table) but it has not been worth my time to fool with it........There is a local place and they pay on the spot but it is across town and the list is limited to newer stuff.........Oh well I can recycle them for free so no real loss in disposing them and I make a little money off printers each month.......From everything I have read it is almost more profitable to give these away as to trying to find a reputable mail in place.......Just my .02 cents which does not amount to a hill of beans

I got 3 part time guys to pay, certainly can't afford to throw them away or scrap them as shred. Wish I had a local guy who pays on the spot! Guess it's just me and good ol' Staple from now on...

Review of: Planet Green Ink Jet Buying Program

Thank you for sharing your experience. I shipped off 2 pallets of toners a few weeks ago and am waiting for the report from the buyer. I will pass on their info if it turns out ok. Another place to check out is toner buyer, I have sent in several boxes and was happy with the result. The only problem is they only want boxes 30 pounds or less.

Did you catch this one I posted there??

I decided to "officially" post my results with Advantage Cartridge in this thread as it's ongoing. Around July 24th I had to go to Ft Wayne In. to the VA Hospital for a DR. appointment. I took an accumulation of cartridges and 4 toners with me to drop off at Advantage on my way home. Now this companies policy is 30 day to pay so if your looking for quick cash then this is not it. I had a smaller tote (about 1x1x2') full and a handful of misc. thrown into a plastic sack. I stopped in last week to check progress on my check as my mail carrier (sub) occasionally put the mail in wrong boxes.

They told me that the check would be here this week and I get home from dialysis and there's a check waiting on me. $95.75 just like they promised. Now I didn't really take too much care with the carts. putting them into the tote as back then I didn't have anywhere to ship them that sounded promising (see above). They paid on 40 good ones, I had 12 bad and 14 not on list. I also had 2 new toner carts. they paid $9.ea. for. This was about $50.00 more than I had figured.
I am ready to start fresh, and I will use them again. If you want a good return for your work then you might want to check them out.

I did. To be honest it's been so long since I read that thread the first time I didn't realize it had gotten so big and inclusive, Hobo repointed it out to me though.

I understand that but the time it spent collecting, sorting, packing, and shipping these to get no money was a waste.........Hopefully you and your guys can find more profitable things to do......Good Luck whatever you do and however you do it........Wishing you all the BEST!!!!!!
