I've noticed Hard drive boards seem to have more little capacitors of some sort on them, very small ones, at least the few I've gottten
Exactly. I try to handle my boards one time unless they need more processing to increase their value.even if you have no trouble telling the difference, why handle them an extra time? into the proper bucket it goes the first time you touch it, unless you are do math on yields or something similar.

i should have thought of that from the beginning but i was so happy taken those drives apart and seeing that gold that i just threw everything into a plastic storage container but now i'm facing my day of reckining...sorting them out
I know when i break down computers i have all my bins in front of me and each item goes in the appropriate bin. When it comes to hard drives or CD drives. i just toss those in separate bins and when i have nothing else to do or the bin starts to overflow i just pull those out and sit in front of the tv and go to town. Simple and easy and makes the process easy to see what i have instead of having stuff everywhere.
I also pull the small jumper on the plug in end and save them till I have nothing to do at nite.
Split them with wire cutter on the edge and look for the gold wire inside. A little adds up a little bit at a time.
