Free Environmental Way to get rid of CRT's

So I see alot of people asking what to do with CRT's and paying to get rid of them. Well Goodwill is part of a Dell Recycling program. When you return ANY electronic to Goodwill that does not work, they send it to a Dell Recycling Factory where it is properly disposed of. Goodwill and Dell get major tax right offs for this. Personally I return 2-3 at a time and try not to drop a ****load off but I have never had a complaint about it.

I guess that works for states that have Goodwill. We don't have any in this part of NY - it's Salvation Army or Rescue Mission and either aren't connected to a recycling program that I'm aware of. In regards to cost, everything has one. If you're not paying it, Goodwill's paying it to Dell.

You are referring to the Dell Re-Connect program. In my area they will take CRT computer monitors for free, but charge for TVs. Monitors can be in any condition as far as I know.

Yes in the majority of places they don't take them at goodwill anymore. Places that blow glass for art may want it if you crush it up into reasonable sizes and clean all the who knows what off of them. Do some research and be safe before going to town smashing up all those chemicals into the air, but its something to look into. I know myself I just throw them into a dumpster, no other reasonable way to dispose of them yet. Also if you have the space save them for a city cleanup day around you, and you can bring in a truckload of trash and they will take anything.

yep, goodwill stopped taking them here in Ohio too

I have a best buy here and they take 3 a day free of charge

Not sure about the laws in Nebraska but you better not get caught throwing them in a dumpster where I live unless you enjoy large fines and possible jail time.
Never thought about glass art. I bet there would be a line a mile long with glass artist wanting free leaded glass to melt down and make little dolphins and unicorns for the tourists.

To the best of my knowledge the four corners doesn't have a regulation on what to do with CRTs, unless Iowa got smart..(that'll be the day).

I have utilized the local transfer station as they have a electronics recycling program and just drop a few off a week (they have a specific area set up for it, kinda cool everyhtign goes on pallets etc), however with current changes here regarding E-Watse and the proper disposal of it (now imposing fines for people just putting stuff out with their trash) there are most likely going to be changes coming down the road! They have already eliminated 1 day of operation a week from them and are looking to potentially close a few of the others.

ya goodwill around here is a joke as I recently got caught up with a lot of these I put off and was paying before and all that changed at least for now and while the getting is good best buy no longer charges or has any paper work to fill out for crt's 32in and less. you just go up to customer service and drop them off up to 3 per day. before they charged you $5each and gave you a $5 best buy gift card as a way of paying but not type of game. so I have flooded this option now making it a priority each morning when they first open so its not busy and can get in and out in less than 5mins lol

Thanks for that. I was looking but iam computer stupid. But getting better. And I know a few friends in Iowa, and their pretty smart.

I was refering to state and city government. Citizens on the other hand are very smart - smarter then Sioux City officials anyhow.
