friendly warning about cockroaches and computers

This is a first in 5 years of escrap. I have seen cockroaches in restaurant equipment I scrapped, but never computers. I bought 2 laptops. They were filthy, looked like they were through a war zone. Well started doing my thing, testing, listing on ebay. I cracked one open and found dead cockroaches. I dont think I ever ran so fast and threw out the door under a tarp. I will clean up and list and sell on ebay, because they are indeed good. Even know the owner said they were bad, but they are not coming back in my house. They can go live in the shed till they are sold. I think this is the last time I will bring filthy laptops in my office/house,,,sheesh.

I got the heeby jeebys now...feel itchy...want to burn my clothes in diesel and take a shower in diesel. I decided not to post pics due to the graphic nature. Nothing alive thank god, but my skin is crawling.Warning to all. I thought I saw it all when I cracked a tower open, found a bag of pot, some shrooms, gold chains, cash, and a bowl. No, now definetly saw it all..LOL!.

Off to clean the office and take a shower...sheesh.

Well now that your all clean, an relaxed.

I'll take this time to remind everyone to be aware of bed bugs. You can worry over roaches..but it's the bed bugs you should be really worried over.

Keep that in mind next time you bring something into your living area. roaches can be delt with, bed bugs are major pain in the ass. An it's not a poor thing or a dirty thing. They can thrive anywhere, an just love to hide in dark places. This also includes electronics, furniture, clothing, etc.

So..late at night when you get an itch..remember..bed bugs bite.

    This scary posting brought to you by the letters..B E D B U G S.

Best part? Their hard to see!

Have fun now everyone freaking out an doing the find waldo search..but bed bugs an not Waldo!

Sirscrapalot how you doing my friend? My buddy confiscated that laptop I bought off of you and currently using LOL!. How dare you bring up bed bugs...they just fumigated a trailer here at the park for that. They were dressed in full hazmat, looking just like breaking bad, For a minute, thought they were running a meth lab. Talked to them and apperanlty were cleaning out the trailer full of bed bugs. They told me they dont travel house to house thank god. I was talking to the garbage men about all the trash from the bed bug house they just loaded. The dude started to itch unconciously and was about ready to strip in my driveway. So how dare you, you bring back nightmares..LMAO!!

Here in Tennessee you have to be careful of brown recluse spiders. They love to hang out in dirty storage rooms where a lot of customers keep their old computers and other electronics. Before anything is brought into my garage it gets a blast from the leaf blower. This is mainly for the dust inside PC's but it also takes care of most of the spiders. Not all but most.

Freeked out by a bug in a computer, really, where do you think the name Bug came from when referring to a computer problem. But then I live in Florida where you have to have a flock of yard birds to try to control the German flying Cockroaches, yes I did say flying.

When I first moved here from Florida and bought this property I thought the old guy who owned it must have been a trashey old guy then in a short time I learned that bugs and other nasty things are just dues for living here.

I was thinking the same thing, olddude. If he thinks a cockroach in a computer is bad, he had better never clean an old garage in Florida. We use the cockroaches to pull the wagon full of debris.

I want a pool playing goat! I just need a goat, and a billiards table....

Cockroaches aren't too bad. I found a dead mouse once (Not the USB type). I'd settle for the cockroaches!

Ha! Olddude, I remember when I learned that about computers, it gave me a good laugh.

Bugs used to fly into the old tubes.

    Still cracks me up.

If you scrap outside in the south, you'll always find the large American cockroach in cool moist hidden spots. They definitely get indoors, but are primarily adapted to living outside and are pretty easy to control as you move inventory inside. The German cockroaches are the real pita. They breed profusely, hide well, and seem to tolerate higher temperatures and less moisture. They can run amok indoors if they are not managed and love to hide in electronics among other places. In the south, if you don't spray regularly they can get out of control pretty fast.

I do all my initial breakdowns outdoors, in part because of the roach issues. Like olddude says its just part of the cost of living and scrapping in the south. I'd say about 1/4 of all consumer electronics I open have some level of infestation in them so I'm no stranger to the problem

Anyway, last week I had a cleanup and I've got to admit I got beat and conceded defeat at about 98% completion. I got the bulk of the stuff out but there were some rooms and areas I just could not work in any longer. When the walls and floors appear to be moving because of the bugs and the roach smell is burning the back of your throat, it's time for a strategic retreat to do some exterminating. You know it's bad when you're happy to get to the dump to unload the trailer, and you feel cleaner being at the dump than at the load site.

On the last hour of the cleanup, finishing out some odds and ends outside a little girl, maybe 8 years old walked up started following me around "helping". She finally asked me if I found any of her toys, could I save them for her. Obviously, all her toys were long gone, but Mrs. erewen found a few new toys and found out where the little girl had moved to.

Happy to be back scrapping under my shade tree this week, and thankful for my blessings.

None of my scrap computers ever enter the house. Period. I have opened up towers to have live roaches scurry around and hide.

    Stomp, stomp, stomp.

I bug bomb the garage on a regular basis even if I have not seen anything.

Many times when I get load of computers into the garage, I don't touch them and I will set of bombs and close it up without opening any of them up at all.

More than once after doing this, I have found dead roaches in towers. Not sure if they were dead before the bombing or not, but glad they were dead.
