I was wondering if the cooling fans in computers have any value other that the bit of copper in there. thanks in advance.

I would call any scrap yards in your area or even better go to them and show them what you have and get prices.
Several years ago I was getting .25 a pound for electric motors including whole computer fans but they only pay .10 now so I don't even remove them.
Now I know some of you are going to squawk because I'm throwing small electric motors in with my shred but I have bigger fish to fry.
I'm having a hard enough time keeping up with the PC and telecom circuit boards I'm getting.
Like Jimi said, call your yard. Find out if they even take them and what they pay. Then make up your mind.
Personally, I'm sitting on a 45 gallon trash can full of them and I've got close to 150 power supplies that I may break down (each with a fan), not to mention over 100 network printers, each with at least one fan. I have 1 yard that takes them, but it is 45 minutes away.

Most yards take those as motors or breakage.
My yard used to take them along with reg. motors, then told me awhile back I had to knock the excess plastic off for them to take. Now they refuse to take them at all, says there's not enough copper there for them to mess with. Same with Hi voltage transformers off TV boards, used to take them the same as other transformers, now will not.
Seems like as prices go down the yards are getting pickier on what they'll take at all.

If you enjoy your freedom, thank a vet.
OK guys, thank you. After reading that SOME keyboards are worth A LOT, I wanted to make sure that none of the fans are worth A LOT. Thank you!
Unless the fan can be reused, it's a safe bet to scrap them.
With the lower prices on new fans, there isn't demand for reuse on a large majority of the fans. There will be the stray one that cools an extreme edition Core 2 Quad, but 99% of them are smash and grab.
