Interesting find in an old satellite receiver

Got about 50 old satellite receivers the other day. There were a few really old ones in the lot. One of them had a nice gold cap ceramic CPU inside!
The main board was very much like a large socket motherboard, also had one finger card in it. The hard drive was already gone. The model was a DISH PVR 921.
The CPU inside was a VIA C3 processor, previously I found quite a few of these CPU's in old media player boxes, that I used to get from one certain source.

Those VIA's may be worth more than scrap value- there's a bit of a niche market on Socket 7 CPUs.

Even if it's not, that's a pretty sweet find!

Further evidence to my theory of "Just cause you open a 1000 of something, doesn't mean their all the same on the inside."

Most people would have told you...you wouldn't find such a thing. Their also the same ones who refuse to accept there is gold in some TV's. (Dpl chip/Dlp/whatever teh **** thing is called). An before someone gets all upset...I didn't say EVERY tv, but some. Projection ones have the dpl/dlp chip.

Thanks for adding to my theory! an nice find. Now give us a photo so the rest of us know what you found. I could google it but I'd rather you share your find with us.

Sirs - Is that a "old dog" being taught new tricks? or a "old dog" gets tricked!

If you mean others learning...then the old dogs are learning a new trick. I already knew gold existed in such things. I'm a big fan of satellite parts for ewaste, whether boxes or the arm of the dish. I have a thing for gold an hard drives, what can I say.

Being as I'm up late..I'm likely missing the spirit of your post, do forgive me. It is a quarter of four here. :P

Oh an so I don't have to edit my above posts, several hours later...

When I said Projection screen tvs provide the chips, they do, just not all of them. Some do, some don't. Happy hunting!

Oh an this is what a DPL chip looks like..

The one with the dots is what the one with the screen sits on, usually attached to at lest a mid grade board that may or may not have gold on the corners. I didn't say they had a lot of gold, but gold there is.

The LNB (thing at the end of a dish set up with 3"eyes", for those of you that didn't know) if you crack that baby open it can contain board with gold also. Feel free to seek out past threads by yours truly with pictures even! Now that is for Directv I don't get a lot Dish stuff. What can I say...my sandbar prefers directv.

    Aurum, I apologize if I hijacked your thread, I didn't mean to..if I did there'd be a goat involved. Ask the Clubhouse...better yet, don't.

Hopefully there is some info in all this babble that may result in knowledge being gained. It did it's job..if not, well keep it to yourself, otherwise I'd be sad.

Sirs - Maybe it's I that was tired, as I was actually, in some corny way trying to compliment you and your wisdom on this subject. As I read it didn't sound to much of a compliment (sorry). I think I have only done 1 projection TV, don't remember any gold though, thanks for posting the picture. I do get a lot of the LNB's a pain sometimes, a nice little board, usually gold plated on one side, sometimes another type of plating?
