I live in an area that was hit hard by floods over the last couple of weeks. Beginning today the area government is doing free removal of trash in some areas. They are having the people separate the piles into type of trash including a specific pile for escrap.
Question is this. Would you consider this open for pick up like I drove a searched curbs on trash day? Obviously this is really scrap, and no chance of better than scrap.

You are in a sticky area. Getting permission from the government would be the best. I don't hold a lot of hope that a government employee is going to say "sure go ahead".
Are you an established business? Do you have a business location? if yes offer to take all the ewaste. This could be well worth the effort. Good luck, Mike

Thanks Mike. You confirmed what I was thinking. Just needed to hear it from someone else. I did a drive through the area closest to me and didn't see much out anyway.

I went thru this several years ago in Nashville...go directly to home and business owners...be professional and do anything you can to help them out

You need to ask homeowner, many times insurance people need to see damaged items. Just cause its piled up in front of someone's house after a disaster does not mean its fair game. These people are dealing with enough grief than to have a bunch of get rich quick guys come to town...

a couple years ago when the next town over flooded, residents had to pile their stuff up outside so the insurance folks could see it. then, when it was put to the street for pickup, they cordoned off the streets so nobody but homeowners could get in and they had signs up ''no scrappers.''

Yeah, get permission first.
We had a earthquake here a few hears ago.
Security caught a small featherweight asbergic kid who was taking a lightbulb from a wrecked house (he had a thing for lightbulbs.)
They beat him up and he became the 'Posterboy' for Looting.
In solitary cell for weeks, on TV and the newspapers almost every day.
In the finish the Judge game him a telling off and 'discharged without conviction' (I think).
In actually met him later on when he shifted town to be with relatives.
1st, he's small, I could pick him up with one hand. But they beat him up...
2, its a lightbulb for f's sake. Not a safe or chemists drug cabinet.
3, he's gay, who cares, he's not a 'fairy' sort, you would not know it at all.
4, he's asbergic, he means no harm but has trouble with boundary's and being too trusting.
5 he was in the wrong place at the wrong time doing the wrong thing at the same time everyone wanted someone to point their finger at..

As one who lives on a sandbar, an goes through this just about every year. Whether flood damage, wind, etc.
I will contact the homeowner direct during these times, as said before..sometimes they need to pile it up at the curb or near it for insurance purposes. When Sandy passed through several people got in trouble for taking things out on the curb, as it was left there for the insurance folks. They come down in droves when we have a hurricane(the insurance people, not scrappers) so it's usually not much waiting. Week or two in my past experience.
Point is..ask the homeowner. It's their crap.
As always..YMMV.
