Wow these accumulate quickly.......Back to breaking them down and sorting the components.........I have sold these every way imaginable and still can't get a true handle on the value of these.........I know I have posted this before but I have come to the conclusion that breaking them down is by far the most profitable way of recouping some money spent on scrap computers.......By the way I'm doing server ones and they have all kinds of goodies in them

Yes Server ones can end up being green/green and sold as a low mid-grade which nets me about .55/lb vs .30 for the green/brown ones.
You also may get some with gold fingers that you can cut off and save the gold fingers which will obviously pay more than the .55 or .30.
I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!

It's a PITA when you let your power supplies pile up. One of the yards I sell to just recently started buying power supplies and power bricks. .18 with the wire and .16 without....It is what it is. However, if I remove the power boards and cut the wire I can get .30 a pound for the power boards and .62 a pound at a different yard for the wire and I don't have to remove the plug ends.

I don't even bother takin them out anymore except If I see the ones with the large transformer I open those good copper and worth a couple minutes.
In most cases I just cut the wires and leave them right in the case. Low grade boards and light iron pay the same price. I do not pay for PC's so there is no break even point that I'm trying to recoup. That and I have a lot on my plate at the moment.
I do miss all those copper wound chokes or whatever they are. It was a quick way to get a few lbs of #2 copper.

I am the same way- I leave them in the tower if its a model I've scrapped before. I only venture into them if I've never seen one similar to it by what I see through the vents. I leave them in the case. Also, my buyer buys the adapters from laptops and printers and even any wall brick for a reasonable price. I find it much easier to sell them those smaller power bricks and leave the desktop ones in the tower with the wire cut off.

On the topic of breaking them down, do we know if most buyers are touchy about heatsinks? I don't tend to have an issue with them but every so often there's one with a huge sink and the screw is tucked back behind some components or is riveted on and won't come off without snapping the board. I have avoided stripping them for this reason, as I don't want to spend all the time prepping the various parts, only to learn that leaving Al on the board has totally devalued them. Also, the payout for power supplies is roughly the same for low-mid/low-grade boards, which seems to be most of what they offer, so why cut away more paying material? But I don't know much about these; I do mostly laptops.
I concur with mike and sledge about server PSU's. They are remarkably high grade, if one takes the time to prepare them properly.

Still breaking these freaking things down!!!!!!!!!!!!.........Probably have several 100 to try to do this week alone........Took one to a diff scrap yard today and was offered .05 cents/lb.......I passed

I have 4 dishwasher liners that serve as holders for these outside. When the four are full, that is pretty close to a Gaylord. Outside storage is the key for these. Does not matter if they get wet.

dont know how it is with ppl in the US but here in South Africa, i save all the working power supplies that are above 250wthey sell quite well with the younger guys who are always tinkering with their computers or those trying to build up systems for resale.the power supplies from servers are more valuable bcos they tend to be over 500w and those who do lots of computer gaming need this type of power supplies due to their above average power requirements.i can easily say that ive made more out of selling the power supplies whole than from stripping a lot of them & sorting the different types of metal & ewaste in there.its less work too- u just need to continue placing ads in the right place and being patient

Well if I kept all the working ones above 250 watt I would have a tractor trailer full of worthless power supplies.........500 watt anymore is hardly enough power to push newer graphics cards.......I sent some off last week and broke a bunch down so for now I got rid of the excess I had..........Oh well just need to keep moving forward
