Guys listen if you have a pickup or a trailer and can take to a carrier believe me you will save money in the long run. I have talked to many small scrappers and showed them how they can save money no gaylord needed as mentioned in another post. I would be glad to help anyone with quesions or quotes just call me im always around

There are tractors with loaders that can move pallets. One came up at an auction I missed last fall- the darned thing only brought $1400. Wished I bought it. But, I don't have one right now. It's on my wish list....

As for the tall sides, one thing you can think about for fuel savings and lower wind resistance is to make the sides have a rod halfway up that acts as a hinge. We had an old Omaha Standard hog rack back in the day that was like this- pull some pins at the corners, and the sides fold down over the outside, making it half-height (About as tall as the cab of the pickup). When you needed to haul an animal, you'd flip the sides up, put the lynch pins through to hold the sides up, and away you went. I hauled tons of computers with that rack back in the day with our old 1992 Dakota. The rack has been broken and fixed so many times that it's not really usable anymore, but it really worked slick back in the day

Always mix in some of the lower grade stuff on your pallet so it doesn't pile up on you. That way you can still get a pretty decent payout, especially when you factor in that they pay better for most lower grade items than your local yard will.

Hopefully, you have a decent scale to weigh everything. Before sending, record your net weights in a spreadsheet so you can see how it will work out sending in a mix of the higher and lower grade items on the same pallet. That takes the guess work out of it.

What do you mean that you need to take the steel off. Never done that on a shipment of PSUs. They go thru the hammer mill as is.

I was thinking the same thing........If I remove steel I process the whole unit (aluminum/copper etc.)

Once I get enough, I am going to try and work with you to freight ship boards to a buyer on here.... still stocking up though. PS I live in PA same as you not sure if that effects prices at all....

Still probably have a few months of stockpiling to go!

Have gotten some great info and some not so good.....possibly found buyer for some of this stuff and they seemed to grade things much more to my liking.....we shall see.....now I must find the motivation to process more material

If I got bad information, so be it. But that's what I was told and that's why I suggested that Mike can double check on that if he wants to. But Jay has earned my trust and if he says to take the steel off then that's what I do.

Yours actually wasnt the bad info that I was talking about.....one guy said leave this type of work to 3rd world countries and that the wire was practically worthless at .05 cents/lb

If I have to go thru the trouble of taking them out out the steel, then I'm cutting the wire off and selling the boards as power supply boards at at least 30 to 35 cents.

Yeah ... that would be me.

Not trying to steer you wrong here Mike. It's just the best info i've got.

As regards low grade computer wire:

I stripped out a bunch by hand last winter in hopes of reducing the amount of insulation so that it would go as mid grade. Lol .. you know how they say you learn more from your failures than you do from your successes?

You really should go see for yourself. Actual copper recovery percentage is pretty low.

Same / same with power supplies. Break a few down by hand, add up the numbers, and see what you're making per hour.

Really lieked the idea of processing them in bulk with a hammer mill.

For the record, PSU does not need to be removed from the steel case. Now we will return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

The only one I would be concerned about are the white ones.....forget what they are called but they have a nasty powder in them if broken.....other than that no different from dismantling any other electronic
