Possible new source for escrap

I do some small scale escraping. In fact all of my scraping is small scale since I don't even own a truck, but I may have just stumbled on a gold mine. (literally)

A lady who volunteers where I work was talking about a charity she works with and how she helps run a once a year gigantic rummage sale and how stuff is dirt cheap. I asked if they get computers to sell and she said they used to but they have to sell everything in like a week and the computers never sold so they won't take them for donations any more.

I offered to pay $5 each for any whole computer tower they got and she was ecstatic at the idea that they could take them and have a source to get rid of all of them for some money.



Maybe you guys have similar situations where you live. Cheers!

I've got several thrift stores that used to never take PC donations because the couldn't ever sell them. I give them the same deal you did - $5 each.

I get old computers for $1 each, but only come across a few a week. I'm not sure why anyone would pay $5 each, I wouldn't want to give more than $3 I think, unless it was a newer one that might be worth reselling after a bit of work.

We got those gray totes in a cleanout of a storage unit. That pic is just some of what we took to our buyer. We had memory, processor chips, fingers, cards, and the other stuff I mentioned.

School auctions are a good place to find those style of totes as well. Generally you can get them pretty cheap and in large quantities.

Watch your local newspapers for school auctions. I am not sure why, but almost every school auction I have been too they sell mass quantities of those totes. Most school systems will have a surplus auction once a year.

I don't think most people can get $12 out of a computer because they will have to ship the scrap someplace. I could see paying $5 for junk computers only if I were getting some guaranteed volume, maybe 50+ a week.
