USB connectors have a slight Gold plate on the end of the connection,, its not 100% plated gold and you can see that often the other side of where it touches is not Gold plated either, or you can see the edges of where the Gold playing finishes, it gets 'feathery'.
The USB metal housing is either Stainless steel, or its Brass that's been coated with Chrome or Tin. Tear it with pliers and use a magnifying glass to look at the torn edge.
Most telecom plugs are a little shaped rectangle of Gold placed metal.
The socket is a three price Item. There's a springy Gold plated wire that makes the actual connection, it might be magnetic = Steel with Gold plating.
There's the copper wire and a crimped Brass collar the fits over the Gold plated contact and the Copper wire, joining them together.
