I have a stack of about 10 hard drive platters. I looked on ebay and see them going for about $1-1.50/pound. I can't see making much after fees and shipping. Aren't they coated aluminum? Should I just throw them in with my aluminum?

THis was already posted here in it's complete form, but this is the condensed version. If you continue to break them down you will have more platters to sell, hang on to what you have till you have enough to make it worth selling.surface layer of Co-Cr-Pt alloy is 40-50% platinum, and the layer is ~30 nm thick. and I estimate one platter has at most 2.2 mg Pt. you've just spent an hour of time to reclaim 10 cents of platinum,

Wow, the prices have dropped a bit on these. I was thinking more, but just looked at them. As said, just toss them to the side until you have a big (flat rate) box full of them.

2. check "Completed listings" under "Search including"

If you type in something such as hard drive platters, all listings that are still going on will come up. If you scroll down the screen, you will see completed listings. click there.
