No you do not. If any yard try to tell you they are down grading your PCI cards because of the metal tell them to go to hell.
On all high grade motherboards (desktop), server or PCI cards there is amount of steel that is "ok" but if there is to much then it will be down graded.
I.E don't leave the HUGE metal back plate thats on the dell desktop motherboards as your boards will be down graded.

I remove all metal possable from all boards. does that mean I'm cheeting myself as I usually manage to do ?

old dude...me and you both....instead of leaving them on i took them off about 200 pci cards and put them in shred bucket metal went from 4 bucks a pound to 10 cents a pound
With me...you can have around a %5 metal on the boards by weight. The metal on the pci cards are fine, the metal around the ports on motherboards are fine, the small metal plate behind the motherboard on dell systems are fine as long as its not the huge steel backing. If its the small square that the heat sink will attach to then its ok. If you are unsure you can post a photo on here and I will let you know if you need to clean it up more or not.Originally Posted by olddude

You do not have to remove all the metal from the boards. Guess the game went by fast while doing the work.
