Has anybody scrapped the Powermac g3? I have a lead on 60, but I've spent my computer programming career working with windows based pcs. They are missing hard drives but otherwise complete.

These are fairly easy to scrap since the case is a clamshell. They usually have a big copper/alum heatsink and a good motorola processor in them. The motherboards are usually large and come in at around 2lbs. Some components may have salvage value as there was some carry over to the g4's which still sell for 50-100 in working condition.

I thought I'd add in this picture, shows a good view of the insides. The older machines are nice because they tend to have more add-on cards to scrap.

I scraped one of those a couple weeks ago they are full of goodies for sure.

Lol. Good. I should know exactly what I'm dealing with soon. The lady wants to trade her remaining 40+ for my home-built arcade mame cabinet. I'm in the process of troubleshooting it right now... It's been a few years since it's been plugged in. Had to swap out the motherboard and trying to get all the drivers working. Fun with Windows 98...

I kept two (one a G4) and scrapped 8 more - all good stuff. Kinda light though, but that's the whole point of laptops right? The little boards I got $9lb for as low grade processors, hi grade for the mobos (about 1/2lb ea) hard drives/boards, batteries are HEAVY, the mouse pads go with hi grade, and all kinds of gold connectors. I would imagine these melt down nicely, lol. I just don't know what to do with the screens!!! I left them intact, except for two.

Working laptop screens can be sold as replacements for more than scrap value if you don't mind sitting on them for a while.

we burned two of them several years back in a 55 gal drum fire. they burned cool colors. they def melt down nicely

it was a product of some blotter and about 25 people. years before i was scrapping.. so don't ban me or hate me for the waste
