The cloud is the term for storing files on a remote computer/server instead of on your own computer. This way, they can be accessed from anywhere. You will begin to see less computers with hard drives and more with memory on chips. I don't think it will decrease e-scrap, just change what that scrap is.
Watch for those metal filing cabinets which are quickly becoming obsolete to most.

IF your computer is hooked to the internet and your external drive is hooked to your computer. Big brother can se your files if he wants too.
You can 'Sync' your google cloud drive and your local drive so you have access even if your service is down.
Funny how time has changed how people think.
I remember when my buddies were all saying they would never give up there vinyl .
Then the magnetic strip came out and people were in an uproar about being able to be tracked.
Now in every pocket is a tracking devise. Now we all just give out all our info, some even let you know where they plan on being at say 9:00, but wait not just our personal info here have all my friends names and numbers also.
Hey is that web cam on? Are you sure? LOL
Time to kick back and get head in cloud!

Hey Ewasted. I'm a cloud engineer in the company i work for and i can tell you this. Even if only two IP's have access to that database. If either one is part of windows domain and has a connection to the outside world i can get to your database.
I do the intrusion tests on our cloud, and i've been able to hack our own systems by using known exploits and jump from system to system. It's actually scary what one can do when the have the knowledge.
1. find server i want to get into
2. Find less secure system that i can exploit attached to said server
3. Exploit security hole in SQL server
4. Find admin account
5. login to server i wanted in the first place
6. change admin account and lock out others
7. take a data bath.
Total time: 5-30 minutes depending on password length, complexity, and if the server is patched and up to date.
